Key Responsibilities:
Collaborate with individuals to develop personalized recovery plans tailored to their needs.
Utilize peer support techniques to foster hope, resilience, and recovery in individuals with mental health and substance use disorders.
Help clients access recovery tools, community resources, and support systems, providing mentorship, advocacy, and coaching.
Support individuals in identifying their strengths and setting achievable recovery goals.
Provide emotional, informational, and instructional support to build clients' recovery skills and independence.
Accompany clients to appointments when permitted, ensuring professional representation of the agency.
Offer crisis intervention and facilitate group education sessions as scheduled.
Assist clients in accessing medical and behavioral health services while documenting all services per state and accreditation standards.
Maintain regular communication with referral sources and guardians to discuss progress and relevant matters.
Actively participate in professional development to meet ongoing training requirements.
Education, Experience, and/or Credential Qualifications:
Willingness to self-identify as a present or former client of mental health and/or substance use services OR self-identify as a person in recovery.
One year of direct personal experience with the mental health system as a primary consumer of services.
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Completion of a state-approved Certified Peer Support training program within six months of employment.
For Missouri applicants: Two years of responsible employment history and successful completion of the State of Missouri-approved Peer Specialist certification examination within six months.
Exceptions to qualifications may be made by appropriate leadership.
Additional Qualifications:
Must have a current driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and current auto insurance.
Must be 21 years of age or older.
Ability to offer personal, unique knowledge of recovery while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
Familiarity with case management and community resources for mental health and substance use disorders.
Proficient in verbal and written communication, with basic computer skills.
Physical Requirements:
Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
Requires significant walking or standing, or involves sitting most of the time with occasional pushing and/or pulling.
