Certified Recovery Peer Advocate
The Opportunity
We are seeking an individual with lived experience for a Peer position for our SHERPA Program. SHERPA is a specially trained team of peer recovery coaches offering guidance to individuals and families navigating the Substance Use Disorder (SUD) treatment system. SHERPA provides recovery, harm-reduction, and crisis service linkage and emotional support based on the principles of hope, wellness, dignity, and choice.
Responsibilities
+ Engage people in strengths-based, trauma-informed peer support at the very beginning stages of their individual recovery plans.
+ Demonstrate active listening, respectful motivational interviewing, and treatment of people as the strongest resource in their own recovery.
+ Educate participants about the reality and process of recovery, including options for treatment, harm reduction, and safety.
+ Provide systems advocacy and guidance to individuals as they navigate the substance use disorder treatment system.
+ Provide warm handoffs to treatment providers and/or recovery support services and other community resources.
+ Effectively communicate with family, community-based organizations, substance use treatment providers, and community support.
+ Document service utilization and outcomes with respect and confidentiality.
Qualifications
+ High school diploma required. Undergraduate degree a plus.
+ Must obtain NYS Certified Recovery Peer Advocate (CRPA or CRPA-P) within 90 days of employment.
+ At least 2 years working in a substance use or mental health recovery services as a provider or service recipient required.
+ Intermediate computer skills required.
+ Valid NYS driver's license with a safe and responsible driving history.
Additional Information
ยท Salary: $24.73.hr
+ Schedule: Full-time (35 hours/week), Non-Exempt.
