The Central Sterile Technician - Certified performs a variety of cleaning, assembling, and processing duties for reusable instruments and equipment. Performs various patient care activities and related non-professional services to assist nursing personnel. Functions under the direction of the Staff RN, Charge Nurse, or Unit Director, complying with established policies, procedures, and standards of practice in conjunction with all members of the health care team.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

1. Cleans, checks, assembles, wraps, and sterilizes all reusable items.

2. Cleans Autoclaves weekly.

3. Uses aseptic procedures and complies with appropriate policies in performing Central Sterile (CS) duties.

4. Runs and maintains the Steris System.

5. Handles contaminated items using proper infection control procedures.

6. Maintains OR stock and supplies. Checks PAR levels, and orders appropriately. Generates orders for special order items as directed by Charge Nurse or Unit Director. Performs routine clerical functions related to supplies.

7. Assists nursing personnel with admissions, transfers, and discharges. Transports patients using appropriate safety measures. Recognizes and prioritizes assignments appropriately.

8. Maintains daily quality control records.

9. Assists with transportation and handling of surgical specimens.

10. Performs all related duties as requested or required.
