Summary

This position does require on call weekend rotation.

Position Summary: As defined by the American College of Surgeons (ACS), surgical assistants provide aid in exposure, hemostasis, closure and other intraoperative technical functions that help the surgeon carry out a safe operation with optimal results for the patient. The Certified Surgical Technologist First Assistant (CSTFA) may function as a first or second assistant as directed according to hospital policy. In addition to intraoperative duites, the CSTFA also performs preoperative and post-operative duties to better facilitate patient care. The CSTFA performs these functions during the procedure under the direction and supervision of the surgeon/physician and in accordance with hospital policy, appropriate laws and regulations. When not actively assisting the surgeon/physician, may assist in rendering patient care at the direction of the Surgical Assistance Manager which may include hospital zone based patient care procedures.

 

Requirements: American Heart Association CPR Certification Initial Certification CFSA, CSA or SA-C Maintain mandated cert. competencies & CEUs Cert. conferred by ABSA, NBSTSA or NSSA. 3-5 years as Certified Surgical Tech.
