Maintains the sterile field and anticipates and responds to the needs of the surgical team. **Essential Job Functions** + Assists with the care, preparation, and maintenance of sterile and non-sterile supplies and equipment. + Maintains open communication with members of the surgical team to assure a collaborative work environment is maintained. + Assists in training and orientation of students and new staff members. + Complies with established hospital policies, procedures, and practices to assure that standards of quality, efficiency, and safety are met. + Attends educational programs as prescribed by departmental policy and individual need. Maintains all required certifications. Must have or complete certification within 6 months from date of hire. **Education** High School Diploma or GED (required) Associates Degree, Vocational Certification, or Military Certificate in Surgical Technology (required, unless being hired into a Labor and Delivery unit in Ohio then preferred) (or grandfathered in SC as a surgical technologist due to working prior to 2008) **Work Experience** Work requires knowledge of basic sciences, such as anatomy and physiology, microbiology, etc., asepsis and sterile techniques and operating room techniques. **Training** Work includes three to six months on-the-job training (orientation) for full familiarity with surgeon's preferences and department policies and procedures. **Language** None **Patient Population** Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit.
