Spring 2025 CFX Production Development Internship:

Program Dates: January 27, 2025 - April 4, 2025Time Commitment: Part-Time (24 hours per week required)Format: In-Person, Remote, or Hybrid

Job Description

“What would you say you do here?”
The Character Effects department at DreamWorks Animation is responsible for both the
set up and shot simulation of cloth, fur, hair, foliage, feathers, props, and other
simulations as necessary on various projects. The Character Effects Production
Development team oversees and maintains the common CFX workflows and tools used
by all productions, with members specializing in artistry, engineering, and pipeline.

The goal of the CFX Production Development internship will be to introduce candidates to the studio setting and involve them in development of tools for CFX shot production on DreamWorks feature films.The intern will work closely with the CFX Production Development team to help become familiarized with CFX workflows and techniques.The intern will focus on the complete cycle of developing one or more tools.With guidance from a mentor, the intern will write the tool(s), run tests in production shots, troubleshoot resulting issues, demo usage to CFX Artists, and write documentation.The intern may participate in production shot work to familiarize themselves with Dreamworks’ Character Effects tools and workflow.

Qualifications

Pursuing an Associate, Bachelor or Graduate degree at a College/University (orb equivalent), or be a recent graduate (within six months of graduation date)Experience with computer animation software such as Maya and HoudiniMust be 18 years of age or olderFor remote internship option, must have own equipment (computer, headphones, etc.) and stable high-speed internet connectionFor hybrid internship option, must be willing to work in Glendale, CaliforniaMust be authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorshipMust be willing to adhere to all Company COVID-19 workplace safety policies and protocols

“What can I offer?”

Experience with PythonExperience working with a team to create computer animated shots for a project or short filmKnowledge of general simulation and deformer workflowsFamiliarity with Maya API, Houdini HDK, and Houdini Digital Asset constructionFamiliarity with C++ and Houdini VEX language

Hourly Rate: $17.00
Hybrid OR Fully Remote: This position is open to be completed Hybrid, generally
contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week, OR Fully Remote,
contributing from a non-DreamWorks worksite, most commonly an employee’s
residence.
