Chaplains provide spiritual care to patients, families and caregivers fostering spiritual resources for healing. Spiritual care is a component of healing, so meeting others where they are and helping them during troubled waters is a vital part of a Chaplain’s role.  


A caregiver in this position works 8:00am – 4:30pm.  


A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

Provide education and consultation for physicians, nurses and other caregivers.  

Provide spiritual care and counseling for patients, families and caregivers of all faith groups, ages and conditions.  

Foster spiritual resources for healing.  


Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

Completion of at least four units of Clinical Pastoral Education.  

One year of ministry experience.  

OR a bachelor’s degree, three years of ministry experience, satisfactory completion of one or two units of Clinical Pastoral Education and the expectation to get four CPEs within two years of hire.  

Certification as a board-certified Chaplain (www.bcci.professionalchaplains.org) or eligibility within two years or certification as an ACPE Supervisor of Clinical Pastoral Education.  

Can work on-call and regular work hours.  

Can provide crisis and ongoing care.  

Skills: empathy, critical thinking and communication  


Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

Master’s degree of divinity or equivalent.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.Must be able to climb stairs, pull, push and facilitate movement of the patient.Must have normal or correctable vision and hearing to be able to hear normal conversations.
