Major Responsibilities:

Provides spiritual and emotional support to patients, families and staff as part of a comprehensive patient care program, including assessments, appropriate interventions and accurate documentation.Collaborates with staff in the development, coordination and implementation of actions to address the spiritual and human needs of patients, their families and staff. Seeks to creatively improve the quality of patient care using the resources available.Provides emotional and spiritual support for staff, individually and collectively, focusing primarily care related stress and making referrals to EAP as appropriate.Provides guidance and resources to the multi-disciplinary team regarding the spiritual and emotional needs of those they serve.Serves on multi-disciplinary committees representing the specialty of spiritual care.Designs, conducts and/or shares in research projects that highlight the emotional/spiritual care of patients. Shares results through written and oral presentation.Supports and mentors Clinical Pastoral Education students providing clinical ministry within their departments.Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:

Chaplain certification issued by the Board of Chaplaincy Certification Inc (BCCI) needs to be obtained within 3 years, orChaplain, Catholic certification issued by the National Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC) needs to be obtained within 3 years, orChaplain, Jewish certification issued by the National Association of Jewish Chaplains (NAJC) needs to be obtained within 3 years.

Education Required:

Master's Degree in Religious Studies, orMaster's Degree in Theology, orMaster's Degree in Divinity or related field.

Experience Required:

Typically requires 1 year of experience in ministry. Minimum of four units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) granted by the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE).

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

A strong background in functional theology and the ability to apply this in a pastoral manner to individuals and their needs, complemented by a knowledge of guidance and counseling skills.Awareness of group dynamics and one’s role within those dynamics.Ability to work amidst crisis situations in calm non-anxious manner.Self-awareness that includes knowledge of one’s feelings, attitudes, values, assumptions, strengths and weaknesses, and how these affect one’s spiritual care.Training and awareness of ethical issues related to health care decision making.Knowledge of behavioral sciences that include an understanding of personality development and typology; interpersonal relationships; power dynamics, trauma; loss and grief;Ability to communicate and document efficiently using electronic media.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

May be exposed to blood and body fluids; therefore, personal protective equipment must be worn as necessary.Availability and transportation to serve on-call rotation as needed.Must be able to sit, stand, walk, and bend throughout the workday.Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
