Under the direction of the Department Manager, the Resident Chaplain will provide spiritual and emotional support to patients, families, staff, and students at AMC. This will include both day and night coverage – remaining on site – to be available for all calls for spiritual care throughout the night and during holidays. Resident chaplains work alongside full-time staff chaplains and the interdisciplinary care teams.

Bachelor’s Degree preferred. Graduate degree.One unit of Clinical Pastoral Education from an accredited APCE siteCompleted ACPE application accepted by educator.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for the delivery of spiritual care to patients and families in collaboration with the department.Carrying trauma and code pagers and responding to requests for spiritual care in emergencies. Provides on-call night coverage for the hospital, making rounds on the intensive care units and responding to all calls for a spiritual presence during their on-call hours, 5:00pm to 8:00 am.Supports staff in difficult situations involving patients, their families, or simple job-related stress.Be available for consults with staff, families, and patient when deemed necessary by any member of the health care team (chaplain included).Offers spiritual assessments, grief support, religious services, and crisis counseling.Participates in all department programs and activities, such as quarterly meetings, huddles, and Spiritual Care Elective program for 4th-Year Medical Students.Comply with all AMC, department, as well as New York State and accrediting agency’s standards.Participate in and successfully completes Mandatory Education.Participates in CPE classes and performs the tasks assigned by the educator.Clear and timely charting of patient care in Electronic Medical Record.Provides reliable support and back-up for intern chaplains and other volunteers within the department.PHYSICAL DEMANDS
