Overview
Participates as part of the ministry of caring for the physical, spiritual, and emotional needs of the patients, their families, and the staff of the hospital. Provides religious counseling, care and guidance at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and Mt. Ascutney Hospital.
Responsibilities
* Provides personal support, pastoral care, and pastoral counseling to individual patients, and families. Refers for follow-up support to meet specific needs.
* Organizes and implements programs for spiritual support of patients, families, and staff. Arranges for or leads patients, families, and employees in religious services to requests, requirements, and assessed needs.
* Participates in providing on-call coverage for emergency situations consistent with the Chaplaincy Department’s on-call coverage plan.
* Provides liaison between patients and clergy, and between staff and clergy. Supports visiting clergy in effecting their ministries consistent with Departmental and Hospital policies.
* Maintains records of professional activity and provide reports.
* Documents observations, care, and plans in patients' medical records.
* Serves as an educational resource; implements seminars, programs and rounds on medical-religious issues for area clergy, medical center staff, students, and community. Participates in meetings, conferences, and rounds.
* Provides support, consultation, coordination and oversight for departmental volunteers.
* Counsels or refers personnel with problems affecting patient care, employee relations, personal concerns, or relational problems.
* Participates in continuing educational opportunities to enhance skills and keep abreast of developments in pastoral care; participate in professional organizations.
* Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications
* Master of Divinity degree or the equivalent, with 3 years of experience in a parish or institutional ministry.
* Ordination or other recognition of ministry relevant to applicant's affiliation, and endorsement for Chaplaincy by appropriate denominational endorsing body.
Required Licensure/Certifications
- Certified or eligible for certification by the Association of Professional Chaplains, the National Association of Catholic Chaplains, National Association of Jewish Chaplains, or a comparable cognate group.
- Four units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) required.
