Characterisation Technician

As the Characterisation Technician, you will carry out routine and non-routine analysis using a range of characterization techniques to support the development on new test methodologies and material investigations.

The position is part of our Hydrogen Technologies team and would welcome applications from graduates with some industry exposure.

This role is key to ensuring the quality of products and raw materials of a Manufacturing site producing and developing new to world technology, supporting a complex fast changing research, development and rapidly growing manufacturing environment as the Hydrogen Technologies sector continues to evolve towards high volume manufacture and commercial success.

Your responsibilities:

Preparing specimens and samples.

Perform testing on innovative materials using modern testing techniques

Recording and interpreting results to present to senior colleagues including summarized test data and procedures.

Generate analytical reports to be submitted to test requestors.

Prepares and maintains proper testing documentation.

Participate and contribute to problem-solving projects.

Take accountabilities for equipment and laboratory problem-solving Projects.

Organising your own workload in collaboration of the Characterisation Lead to make the most efficient use of the laboratory equipment and to meet customer tight deadlines.

Assist in instrument maintenance program activities to ensure optimal performance of testing equipment.

Participate and take accountability in characterisation Group continuous improvement projects.

Following and ensuring strict safety procedures and safety checks.

Take accountability on test methods development in agreement with scientists.

Requirements for the role:

A degree or relevant experience in Chemistry/Materials science/technology/Physics.          

Proven experience working with some of the following instruments or equivalent; Rheometer, particle sizer, Hg porosimeter, Thermal mechanical testing, Microscopy.       

Computer literate (MS Package) and understanding of statistical techniques using statistical software package tools          

Working knowledge of testing techniques. 

Previous laboratory experience in an industry environment. (Beneficial)

An awareness of best laboratory practices according to ISO/IEC 17025 quality standard. (Beneficial)

A sound knowledge of the principles of modern physical techniques. (Beneficial)
