Charge Nurse - 5Park Neuroscience, Full Time Days

5 Park features all-private rooms with monitoring capabilities. The unit offers specialized nursing assessment and care to patients with both neurological and neurosurgical diagnoses. Typical patients include those with a diagnosis of stroke, post-op craniotomy, post-op discectomy and other back surgeries, as well as post-cerebral embolization. Unit nursing care is complemented by the expertise of the Neuroscience Nurse Clinician, who is the Stroke Coordinator as well as assists in linking the Neuro Unit with the Rehabilitation Unit while fostering a strong focus on the patient's continuum of care. Neuroscience and Medical-Surgical experience is preferred but New Graduate nurses are welcome.

Job Summary

The CN is an entry-level management position responsible for assisting with the coordination of care on designated shifts.  He/she will provide leadership to the staff members of the unit in the area of patient care.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

The following is a summary of the major functions of this individual's job.  He or she may perform other duties, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below, and specific functions may change from time to time.

1. Assists with operational activities of unit

2. Assists with management of patient care delivery on the unit

3. Demonstrates Clinical proficiency utilizing the nursing process

4. Demonstrates organizational skills in providing patient care

5. Collaborates with the management team to support performance improvement activities

6. Participates in development of nursing staff

7. Leadership and critical thinking

Minimum Education, Training and Experience Required:

A.  Experience:

    1.   Two years relevant patient-care experience required.

    2.   Prior experience as charge nurse preferred

    3.   Exhibits growing knowledge of nursing theory and practice

B.  Education:

    1.   Active Kentucky RN license

    2.   BLS and ACLS Required

    3.   Bachelor’s degree in nursing required.

C.  Clinical attributes:

    1.   Skill in interpersonal and interdepartmental relations.

Practices good written and oral communication skills Possesses skill in problem identification and resolution

    2.   Demonstrates ability to handle stressful situations in a calm manner

    3.   Displays exceptional public relations skills

    4.   Exhibits self motivation in meeting educational needs
