Charge Nurse - Operating Room
POSITION STANDARDS Graduate from an accredited school of nursing, BSN or MSN required or currently enrolled in an accredited program. Current New Hampshire Nursing license. Certified Perioperative Nurse (CNOR) credential preferred. Active member of Association of Perioperative Nurses (AORN) Current BCLS certification required upon hire. Current ACLS certification required within 90 days of hire. Practicing OR Registered Nurse with at least 5 years’ experience in the Peri-Operative setting is required and said nurse understand/practices the standards set forth by AORN. Active participant in in-services, educational programs, and educational conferences. Exhibits membership in organizations relevant to professional growth. Demonstrates an ability to organize and prioritize job functions. Demonstrates critical thinking skills, using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems. Position Objective The Registered Nurse is accountable to meet the complete nursing needs of a defined group of patients utilizing the nursing process and the medical plan of care in accordance with the New Hampshire Nurse Practice Act and the Patient Bill of Rights. The role for the RN in the Operating Room requires constant flexibility to meet the unexpected and to act in an efficient, rational manner at all times. The Peri-Operative charge nurse facilitates the day in the OR departments schedule, accommodating to the needs and delivery of patient care.

 

Performance Expectation Serves as a clinical and professional role model while fostering growth and development opportunities to the staff. Monitors daily job performance of clinical staff members and surgeons. Effectively manage resources using multidisciplinary approach. Planning, directing, implementing, and improving clinical services. Ensures appropriate number of clinical personnel are available based on volumes and surgical schedule. Makes daily assignments considering qualifications and competencies of the personnel available. Effectively communicates variances in the surgical schedule to appropriate members of the perioperative team. Ensure all clinical personnel have breaks consistent with labor laws. Demonstrates professional use of verbal, non-verbal, and written communication skills. Collaborates, each shift, with other areas and departments as needed for allocation of resources. Utilizes data to identify patient care needs and communicates across the perioperative care team on patient/procedure specifications. Participation in the evaluation process. 13.  Development of policy and procedures. 14.  Participates in departmental and hospital-wide committees 15.  Assists and supports Department Director to achieve and maintain CAH standards. 16. Audits charts for appropriate documentation and review patient history for surgical concerns. 17. Assumes responsibility for own professional development and practice. 18. Develop professional goals to maintain and expand clinical and managerial competency. 19. Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices. 20. Promotes an environment of safety for patients and staff, taking action as appropriate. 21. Performs other duties as assigned.
