Charge Nurse (RN) - Observation Unit - Day
Departmental Overview Our Med/Surg Observation Unit is a fast paced 24 bed telemetry/medical-surgical unit. Common problems seen in our unit include chest pain, syncope, congestive heart failure, pneumonia, and diabetes. Our nurse patient ratio ranges from 4-6 patients depending on acuity. Our care team includes a charge nurse and unit assistants with support from respiratory, lab, and case management departments. Job Summary Job Summary Assessment/reassessment - Systematically assesses / reassesses the health care needs of individuals; appropriate for specific age groups and patient conditions. Involves patient, family and other healthcare providers as appropriate. Nursing Diagnosis and Outcomes - Analyzes assessment to determine nursing diagnosis and expected outcomes, involving patient, family and other healthcare providers as appropriate. Implementation and Coordination of Care - Provides nursing care through interventions to achieve goals and needs using professional judgement guided by current practice standards, rules, regulations and policy. Evaluates patient outcomes by utilizing the critical thinking process and evidence based knowledge to recognize problems, evaluate facts and reach sound conclusions. Professional Practice Serves as department leader alongside and in absence of the Manager. Completion of QA Logs. Education Diploma or Associate’s degree (ADN) required, Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), or Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) preferred. Licensure/Certification/Registration/Professional Designation Current Oklahoma Registered Nurse license. Basic Life Support (BLS) training or retraining is required during orientation prior to providing patient care. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) is required to be maintained thru re-training for duration of employment. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) training is required within 6 months of hire. ACLS is required to be maintained thru re-training for duration of employment. Experience 1 year experience as a Registered Nurse required. Qualifications All required classes for Tier II met; 12 Lead EKG class, Basic Arrhythmia class, and Basic Hemodynamic class. Qualifications Education Diploma or Associate’s degree (ADN) required, Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), or Master's of Science in Nursing (MSN) preferred. Experience One year experience as a Registered Nurse required. (Above requirements can be met by the equivalent combination of education and experience). Licensure / Certification Current Oklahoma Registered Nurse license or active Multistate RN license. Basic Life Support (BLS) training or retraining is required during orientation prior to providing patient care. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) is required to be maintained thru re-training for duration of employment. Charge nurses maintains ACLS as a requirement to continue Bariatric Centers of Excellence.
