The CHaSS Communications Team seeks an innovative Multimedia Specialist I with demonstrated content creation skills to manage and help transform our social media channels while supporting digital marketing efforts in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. The CHaSS Multimedia Specialist will conceptualize, plan, produce, edit, and deliver posts, videos, photography, and related written content for use in digital media, emphasizing social media channels in the college.  Additionally, this split role will devote 8 hours per week (.20 FTE) to creating original digital and written content for the Department of Social Work and occasionally travel to visit with USU statewide faculty and students. Housed within the CHaSS Communications Team, this position will collaborate with graphic media and editorial content creators to create original marketing materials and track cohesive branding and public relations strategy in the college.  This position reports to the CHaSS Communications Team Lead in the CHaSS Dean’s Office and, as such, will also assist with requests related to the college’s website, events, donor relations, and other areas as assigned.

This position is eligible for hybrid work within the state of Utah.

Responsibilities Creates/co-creates and schedules original content (videos, posts, photography, captions, etc.) for recruitment, retention, and donor relations on college social media accounts, including Instagram, X, LinkedIn, Facebook, MyUSU, and othersCreates and assesses a social media strategy for the collegeWorks with the Communications Team/college to develop and implement marketing initiatives to meet the needs of various audiences, including analyzing/reporting data and identifying target populations as well as the appropriate media and advertisingWorks directly with the Department of Social Work on a range of technical marketing projects, including podcasts and video content, print and social media campaigns, and advertisingUtilizes team equipment and expertise to employ a range of production techniques, including sound recording, photography, videography, and equipment to create quality video contentActively uses post-production photo/video editing techniques and preparation for socialsWrites/rewrites marketing copy for a range of purposes and platformsHelps track college events for promotional purposesEducates and supports college departments and units on best practices for the creation and dissemination of media contentAssists in marketing/promotional-related media requests and design tasksAssists in liaising with external units including University Marketing and Communications and Central IT (website)Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in marketing, public relations, graphic design, communications, journalism, or related field OR an equivalent combination of education and experienceDemonstrated use of social media in a professional or educational settingAbility to initiate, manage, and complete projects, both independently and collaboratively, to meet critical deadlinesCommitment to responding flexibly and effectively to the shifting needs and priorities of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences and its departments/units

Preferred Qualifications:

 

One or more years of relevant social media/content creation experienceDesign experience and familiarity with professional software (e.g., Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Premier Pro)

 Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to create content using built-in social media tools (Instagram, Meta Business Suite, etc.)Basic knowledge of writing for search engine optimization (SEO) and social mediaAbility to gather user and reach data, analyze information, and prepare reportsAbility to plan, organize, and coordinate media calendars and campaignsAbility to manage and impart information to a range of audiencesKnowledge of marketing strategies, processes, and available resourcesSolid proofreading and editing skillsComputer skills, including Word, Adobe Creative SuiteStrong writing, editing, and organizational skillsExcellent communication and interpersonal skills Required Documents
