ABOUT US: Formerly Aurora Santa Rosa Hospital, SRBHH was opened in 2016 and is regarded as an integral part of the greater Santa Rosa and Northern California mental health system of care. Conveniently located in the North Bay, this hospital consists of 144 acute psychiatric inpatient beds. Santa Rosa Behavioral Healthcare Hospital (SRBHH) is regarded as an integral part of the greater Santa Rosa and Northern California mental health system of care. Conveniently located in the North Bay, SRBHH serves adolescents and adults. We treat both mental health and co-occurring psychiatric and substance abuse conditions. POSITION TITLE: Chemical Dependency Counselor PAY RANGE: $30.00-$39.50 per hour REPORTS TO: Director of Clinical Services DESCRIPTION OF POSITION: To provide quality direct and indirect patient care to individuals with substance abuse or chemical dependency problems. The Chemical Dependency Counselor maintains knowledge of, participates in further training provided, and understands the potential risks regarding occupational health hazards (e.g. bloodborne pathogen exposure). KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: + Conducts group therapy sessions with patients and family therapy sessions as appropriate to their mental health goals and treatment and timely documents in progress note. + Conducts process-oriented group therapies, as well as conducting educational and other didactic groups as assigned, and timely documents in progress note. + Conducts Chemical Dependency Assessments for dually diagnosed patients. + Thorough knowledge of substance abuse dynamics, problems, and treatment modalities. + Working knowledge of psychological and physical symptomatology associated with chemical dependency, specific to patients' age and developmental stage. + Skills in therapeutic support and confrontation with chemical dependency patients. + Provides chemical dependency and substance use resources and referrals to patients/families as requested. + Provides on-the-spot counseling to patient’s experiencing a chemical dependency/substance use crisis. + Conducts safety planning for patients who are discharging to support with mental health and substance use treatment goals. + Provides education to staff regarding chemical dependency and substance abuse as it pertains to their mental health psychiatric treatment. + Reports to community and/or state agencies regarding any patient issues as required by law and represents Santa Rosa Behavioral Healthcare Hospital in legal proceedings as required. + Complies with facility safety, infection control and security program. + Upholds the Organization’s ethics and customer service standards. + Performs related duties, as requested. Requirements Education/Licensure: + Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor through CCAPP, CAADE, or CADTP + Current CPR certification + Verbal de-escalation and physical intervention program as approved by the CNO. Knowledge and Experience: + Demonstrated knowledge of formulating treatment plans. + Experience with conducting assessments to document history and identify preliminary issues. + Experience with reporting to community and/or state agencies regarding patient issues. Skills and Abilities: + Maintains confidentiality of patients at all times + Strong interpersonal skills including sensitivity to and willingness to interact with persons of various social, cultural, economic and educational backgrounds. + Proficiency with software and/or equipment (Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.) + Strong organizational skills with ability to prioritize projects, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines. + Demonstrated commitment to working collaboratively as well as possessing the skills to lead, influence, and motivate others. + Strong written and verbal communication skills. + Good judgment, problem solving and decision-making skills. + Ability to work in a fast-paced, expanding organization. Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, this position is frequently required to do the following: + Use standard office equipment and access, input, and retrieve information from a computer.
