Are you passionate about chemical engineering? S&C Electric Company is seeking a dynamic individual to coordinate our Product Engineering – Polymer Products function. As a Chemical Engineer Co-Op, you’ll be crucial in ensuring smooth operations and supporting our diverse team.
The Polymer Products operations at S&C are a world leader in manufacturing medium voltage epoxy insulation products. The engineering team at Polymer Products supports the production operations team to achieve the yield goals through process controls, mold designs, and trainings; seeks continuous improvement with manufacturing processes, mold designs, tools, and equipment through improvement and capital projects; addresses and resolves quality concerns observed with manufactured products through problem-solving activities; and supports new product/process development through design, procurement, installation, and startup.
The candidate considered for this position will work on-site at S&C Headquarters in Chicago, Illinois supporting the Polymer Products process engineering team and report to the Assistant Manager-Process Engineering.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform routine material testing on epoxy polymer formulations, including but not limited to density, viscosity, LOI, DSC, and block molds Test raw materials used to formulate epoxy polymers Collect and analyze process data using statistical tools Conduct experiments and write clear, concise engineering test reports describing the procedures, results, analyses, and conclusions Assist with continuous improvement and 5S activities and initiatives Create instruction bulletins or process specification procedures for standard work practices related to manufacturing tooling/processes Run software simulations pertaining to injection molding processes and mold designs Work with process engineering team on capital projects and new product development efforts
What you’ll Need To Succeed:
Job Requirements ( To select this job at a minimum you must have the following):
Must be in good standing as a student at the bachelor’s degree level at an accredited university majoring in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related major and returning to school after the work session. Ability to commute and work onsite at S&C in Rogers Park, Chicago, IL Ability to work full-time (6 months preferred) Ability to begin work starting in Spring 2025 or earlier. Strong organization and presentation skills, including ability to prioritize workloads and maintain documentation Ability to think analytically, independently, and outside of the box to provide fresh ideas to improve processes Ability to work with people in a production/plant environment Proficiency in the use of PC using Word, Excel, Visio, Project, and Access Excellent verbal and written communication skills Basic bookkeeping skills and ability to read drawings
Preferred:
Prior internship or co-op experience in manufacturing or related field a plus.
