Clariant is currently seeking a highly skilled Chemist to support the Care Chemicals business unit. This role will contribute to our mission of delivering high-quality petroleum products through precise and thorough compositional analysis of oil and water samples. You will utilize advanced analytical techniques and instrumentation, interpret data, and collaborate with other professionals (i.e., Marketing and Sales) to optimize commercial product development and ensure compliance with industry standards and customer needs. You will also support current business and potential business by generating data in support of product recommendations for specific applications. Responsibilities

•    Support the business in analyzing oil and water samples using analytical instruments and techniques such as spectroscopic and chromatographic analysis (i.e., FTIR, GC-FID, ICP, IC, and XRD)      
•    Execute laboratory analysis and provide recommendations                     
•    Investigate unknown samples and support sales with analytical reports                
•    Provide technical support on improving the performance and analytical methodologies 
•    Test oilfield products for all specifications                    
•    Process samples and document results for incoming and outgoing products            
•    Assist in root cause analysis in the event of product failures
•    Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment and instruments and schedule maintenance service as needed             
•    Communicate with Lab Manager and Sales to ensure objectives are met                
•    Assist Sales, Marketing, Technical Services and District Management with projects         
•    Participation and cooperation in company implemented ESHA programs.  
•    Ensure compliance with all safety and environmental regulations and company policies during laboratory operations    
•    Prepare and execute all laboratory tasks safely                 
•    Deliver strong problem-solving ability to meet the project's objectives
•    Conduct analysis of oil and water samples using laboratory techniques                 
•    Perform additional administrative tasks to include updating inventory, ordering supplies, and shipping materials as needed    
 


 

Requirements

•    Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Physics, or a related field
•    6 months – 3 years of experience in analytical chemistry, particularly in the analysis of crude oil or petroleum products
•    Must have experience with crude oil compositional analysis, chemical compatibility testing, and blending/testing formulations
•    Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective reporting and collaboration
•    Knowledge of refining processes and the impact of crude oil composition on product quality
•    Previous work in an industrial or research laboratory setting
