What You Will Do:
We are currently searching for a Chemist to independently provide support services to satisfy the overall operational objectives of the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS), Therapeutics Development Branch (TDB). The target candidate needs experience related to chemical process development and scale-up synthesis activities and an understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) concepts. This is a full-time, on-site opportunity in Rockville, MD.

Perform synthetic route scouting.Perform process development of scale-up synthesis activities.Formulate chemistry plans for the development of soluble, potent, selective small molecule probes of biological function.Perform bulk-synthesis, purification, and formulation efforts for advanced testing in animal models.Maintain up-to-date electronic laboratory notebook detailing all experiments and associated online databases.Gather, analyze and interpret data; prepare summaries and reports.Search chemical databases for journal articles, patents and related technologies.Troubleshoot issues, maintain, and train users on scientific instrumentation and equipment.Prepare reagents and maintain an active inventory of all chemicals kept in the laboratory.Purify compounds by preparative chromatography from chemists.Perform chemical and biochemical reactions and appropriate analytical analyses, including chemical synthesis and optimization of small molecules probes and organic synthesis of key materials such as reference compounds).Analyze samples using validated analytical methods for ongoing studies.Develop and make recommendations on experimental procedures and research protocols including novel chemistry methodologies and technologies that advance the field and develop plans for novel syntheses and approaches to new compounds.Collaborate with staff to evaluate and/or develop new techniques.


What You Will Need:

Master’s degree in chemistryAt least ONE (1) year of experience in a chemistry laboratory environment.Must have experience with either process development or scale-up synthesis activitiesMust be familiar with common techniques such as Microscopy, Mass Spectrometry, Spectrophotometry, Chromatography technologies, X-Ray crystallography, or Thermal analytical technologies.MS Office suite


What Would Be Nice To Have:

Experience with Kilo Lab or pilot plant desiredBeneficial to be familiar with common microscopy techniques such as Confocal, Electron, Multi Photon, Fluorescence, or Super Resolution Nuclear Magnetic Resonance MicroscopyBeneficial to be familiar with common chromatography techniques such as HPLC, UPLC, GC, IC, or thin layer.Manuscript writing preferred

The annual salary range for this position is $57,300.00-$85,900.00. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, security clearances, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
