About Cadia
Our Cadia Valley Operation in New South Wales is situated about 25 kilometers from Orange and 250 kilometers west of Sydney. Cadia produces gold doré bars from a gravity circuit and gold-rich copper concentrates from a flotation circuit. The operation includes the Cadia East Mine which is globally renowned for its use of block caving, a large-scale underground mining method.

An exciting opportunity exists for a Chemist to join the Newmont Cadia Laboratory Services team. The Chemist will support operational activities within the laboratory by providing technical guidance and support to laboratory production teams.
The chemist will undertake improvement projects within the laboratory such as method development and optimisation, safety, compliance or operational improvements relating to QAQC, instrumentation, wet chemistry, sample preparation, and fire assay.
Chemists will be required to lead quality systems, documentation and training as well as support team members in undertaking advanced instrument operation, equipment calibration and project management.
Key responsibilities Actively contribute to a positive safety culture and high performing team aspiration Build and maintain excellent working relationships within the laboratory team, customers, external business partners and suppliersProactive problem solving in all areas of the laboratory while ensuing delivery of results in expected timeframesLead the development and improvement of test methodsResponsible for selection, purchase, validation and maintenance of laboratory equipmentRepresent the laboratory in QAQC review and oversee data quality and quality management systemsTrain and develop laboratory team members in advanced laboratory equipment operation, wet chemistry, sample preparation and fire assay
Our ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate strong technical capability, knowledge and understanding of advanced laboratory techniques and equipment with the ability to work collaboratively and respectfully with all stakeholders.
You will also possess the following: Degree Qualified in Chemistry or related discipline.Mining industry experience – highly regarded Demonstrated laboratory experienceExperience in ISO17025 accredited laboratory – highly regarded Demonstrated technical understanding of laboratory instrumentation.
