Summary You will serve as a CHEMIST in the Navy Drug Screening Laboratory of NAVDRUGLAB GREAT LAKES IL. This announcement uses the Expansion of Direct Hire Authority for Certain Personnel of the Department of Defense to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service. Responsibilities You will serve as an official laboratory technician. You will review, analyze, and document events identified in the course of technical and Quality Assurance (QA) activities. You will assist in the investigation of all serious and significant non-conforming events as well as less significant events and document findings. You will enter and retrieve quality assurance data from laboratory databases. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications ALL applicants must meet the BASIC REQUIREMENT: SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION of a Degree: physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Reviewing and certifying laboratory drug test results to include providing initial certification of positive and negative drug testing results; Reviewing test documentation in order to ensure that all specimens are properly handled throughout testing process; Reviewing chain of custody documents to ensure that all analytical procedures performed on specimens are accurately documented; AND Evaluating test results to determine acceptability of samples based on immunoassay, chromatography and/or mass spectra.
