About the role:
10x Genomics is seeking a Protein Design Intern for Summer 2025. This intern will explore AI-driven protein design methods to develop and evaluate novel proteins for spatial biology applications. The role will involve computational protein design, expression, bioconjugation, and tissue-based validation, with opportunities to contribute to both applied and exploratory research.
The intern will work closely with computational biology, protein engineering, and assay development teams to assess the feasibility of AI-driven protein engineering for future 10x Genomics platforms. This is an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of AI-driven protein design, gaining exposure to cutting-edge computational and experimental techniques
This internship provides hands-on experience at the intersection of AI-driven protein design and experimental validation in a cutting-edge biotech environment. What you will be doing:
Computational Protein Design:
Use AI-based tools to design and optimize proteins for specific applications.
Protein Expression & Purification:
Express and purify recombinant proteins using standard molecular biology techniques.
Bioconjugation & Labeling:
Modify proteins for tissue-based validation and imaging experiments.
Tissue Evaluation:
Test protein function in tissue samples using fluorescence microscopy and other assays.
Data Analysis & Reporting:
Analyze experimental results, refine designs, and document findings.
Collaboration & Communication:
Work closely with cross-functional teams and present project outcomes.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
Currently enrolled in a M.S. or Ph.D. program in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Bioengineering, Computational Biology, or a related field. Experience with AI-driven protein design tools (e.g., RFdiffusion, Rosetta, AlphaFold, Foldit, EVOLVEPro) Experience with computational protein design tools (e.g., deep learning-based or traditional modeling software). Hands-on experience with protein expression and purification techniques. Strong programming ability in Python, R, or MATLAB for data analysis.Nice to Have:

Below is the base pay range for this position. The actual base pay will depend on several factors unique to each candidate, including one’s skills, qualifications, and experience.
