What you’ll do:

The Business AI team within the Office of the CEO is a technical center of excellence delivering core AI capabilities for consumption by product teams and organizations across all of SAP. We build the latest in AI/ML technologies, including applications leveraging large language models as well as AI/ML features for the business applications space.

 

The team seeks to make all business applications intelligent. We build out new lighthouse applications using AI/ML, bring these capabilities into existing applications, and empower all of SAP, customers, and partners with ML services on SAP’s cloud platform.

 

As the Chief AI Scientist & Architect within the team, you will develop and drive the AI/ML architecture strategy to integrate Generative AI capabilities seamlessly into SAP’s ecosystem, such as LLM Agents, RAG patterns & orchestration. You will also identify and evaluate emerging technologies and methodologies to enhance our AI/ML solutions, as well as lead the design and implementation of such scalable patterns.

 

You will act as a thought leader and subject matter expert in Generative AI within SAP and work closely with cross-functional teams including product management, engineering, data science, and research to align AI initiatives with business goals.

 

What you bring:

Required:

Minimum of 10+ years of post-graduate, international professional experience in research and/or software development. Extensive knowledge and hands-on experience with Generative AI and large language models. Demonstrated experience architecting and deploying large-scale cloud offerings, with a deep understanding of AI, Machine Learning, and Software Engineering principles. Strong proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, Java, or Scala, and experience with data science libraries and frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn). Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. Expertise in designing and implementing machine learning pipelines, including data preprocessing, feature engineering, model training, and evaluation. Experience with distributed computing and big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark) to handle large datasets. Knowledge of cloud platforms and services (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud, Azure) and experience deploying machine learning models in production environments. Strong understanding of data governance, privacy, and security considerations in AI/ML projects.

Preferred:

Experience in delivering AI/ML solutions in the business applications space, particularly within enterprise software contexts. Strong understanding of SAP’s ecosystem and cloud platform. Experience with full lifecycle of AI/ML projects, from ideation and prototype development to production deployment and scaling. Published research in top-tier AI/ML conferences or journals.

Compensation Range Transparency: SAP believes the value of pay transparency contributes towards an honest and supportive culture and is a significant step toward demonstrating SAP’s commitment to pay equity. SAP provides the annualized compensation range inclusive of base salary and variable incentive target for the career level applicable to the posted role. The targeted combined range for this position is 263,800 - 609,200 USD. The actual amount to be offered to the successful candidate will be within that range, dependent upon the key aspects of each case which may include education, skills, experience, scope of the role, location, etc. as determined through the selection process. Any SAP variable incentive includes a targeted dollar amount and any actual payout amount is dependent on company and personal performance.
