Chief Engineer – USEPA Research Vessel
Location: Duluth, MN and Superior, WI
Position Schedule: Full-time – mid-April through October 2022
SpecPro Professional Services, LLC. (SPS) is seeking a Chief Engineer- USEPA Research Vessel to provide support with vessel operation and maintenance, and scientific sampling operations aboard the USEPA Great Lakes Toxicology and Ecology Division’s Research Vessel Lake Explorer II (LEII), and other smaller craft. The LEII is a 90 foot, unmanned engine-room ship. You will be working in support of SPS’s contract with the USEPA’s Laboratory in Duluth, MN.
Primary Duties:
• You will operate, service, repair, overhaul (as required) all engine room and deck machinery and equipment, including propulsion engines, electrical power plant, hydraulic equipment, pumps, heating system, winches, cranes, and anchor windlass.
• Serve as Tankerman (PIC) during all fueling operations.
• Maintain operating and maintenance records for all engines and other operating machinery and equipment, and advises vessel Captain as to their maintenance, repair, and/or overhaul requirements.
• Maintain an inventory of spare parts and supplies as required to keep vessel machinery serviceable during sampling operations.
• Assist in maintenance and repair of sampling equipment as directed.
• At sea, you will assist the vessel Captain and other crew members as necessary in meeting cruise objectives including aquatic sampling activities (i.e. operate deck cranes and winches). Underway operations AB/QMED duties.
• Participate in general upkeep of vessel spaces and living quarters to maintain their cleanliness and orderly appearance.
• You will perform other duties as assigned.
