Department Summary:The Systems Engineering Innovation Center is seeking a Department Chief Engineer (CE) to join the leadership team of Agile Sys Design & Engineering (L1A1). The CE is responsible for the Department’s technical strategy and quality around system modernization, including architecture, digital engineering, DevSecOps, and agile development.The Chief Engineer (CE) oversees the Department's technical strategy and quality, encompassing system modernization, architecture, digital engineering, DevSecOps, and agile development. Our department is committed to cultivating and implementing agile and innovative methodologies, techniques, tools, and technologies to ensure the success of our sponsors in large-scale or complex modernization initiatives. This is crucial considering the rapid technological and social changes, and the multifaceted nature and complexity of the challenges confronting our nation and the world.Roles & Responsibilities:Build the department's technical strategy in agile systems engineering and lead the department on a path to stay on the emerging edge of technology, aligning with the department and innovation center strategy.Guide the department’s technical investments, reusable tools, technical initiatives, labs, and R&D activities and recommend the development of staff skills.Work in partnership with the department leadership team to lead and manage the department in growing the diversity of work programs. Lead and expand upon the department's technical capability areas.Develop and expand partnerships with programs and projects to support the business and mission needs prioritized by portfolios.Expand the network of partnerships with academic, industry, and government experts and communities.Establishes and enhances internal and external reputation by leading and contributing to high-impact, high-visibility work that substantially informs key sponsor decisions and enables key mission outcomes.Other considerations:Accountable for maintaining the technical quality of the department’s work.Encourages and guides the department’s participation in the MITRE Innovation program and capability development projects.Can assist the Department Head and Portfolio partners in the development and review of Statements of Work.Basic Qualifications:Typically requires a minimum of 10 years of related experience with a bachelor’s degree; or 7 years and a master’s degree; or a PhD with 4 years experience; or an equivalent combination of related education and work experience including at least 5 years leadershipDemonstrated innovation and impact on sponsor programsMust be a US citizen capable of obtaining and maintaining a US government security clearanceVision and ability to articulate the future of systems engineering and how agile methods complementDemonstrated technical leadership in complex, agile, and adaptive engineering environmentsDemonstrated ability to develop trusted relationships and work collaboratively across MITRE and sponsor organizations  This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-sitePreferred Qualifications: Demonstrated ability to develop strong technologistsDemonstrated record of creating an environment rich in learning and educationDemonstrated ability in emergent and agile-related technologies, including Cloud Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Automated Value Delivery, or Digital EngineeringAdvanced degree in an applicable discipline and 15 years of related experienceDemonstrated ability to conduct research and/or develop new technical capabilities
