Description
The Board of Directors of Equinox, Inc. is seeking exceptional candidates for the post of Chief Executive Officer to replace the present interim CEO who will be retiring this Spring. Reporting directly to the board, the CEO is responsible for the overall management and, in partnership with Whitney Young Health Center, strategic direction of the organization, and is the public face of the agency.
About the Organization:
Equinox is a non-profit human services agency with deep roots in the Capital Region since 1947. With a dedicated staff of 110, Equinox provides compassionate care and services to more than 3,500 youth and adults – and their families – at nine locations throughout Albany County with an operating budget of nearly $11 Million. The agency has continually fulfilled its mission of “Changing lives and strengthening communities…” through a continuum of services which presently include resourcestofor individuals and families struggling with the trauma of domestic violence, services for homeless and under-resourced youth, and housing options for individuals struggling with chronic mental health disorders. More recently, the agency is undergoing an analysis of its potential role in the Capital Region’s fight against Food Insecurity: transitioning from its traditional Thanksgiving Community Dinner providing thousands of meals to those in need one day a year to a year-round, sustainable service.
For the past five years, Equinox has also formed a meaningful partnership with Whitney Young Health Center of Albany to better provide a full array of mental health and primary care services to vulnerable populations which both agencies have historically served. This process is anticipated to result in a formal affiliation between the two in 2025. While not a merger, the affiliation will link both agencies strategically and administratively to better meet the needs of the community — strengthening the health care and human services safety net for our under-served and under-resourced community members. Nonetheless Equinox will maintain its status as a distinct non-profit corporation governed by its own Board of Directors. The incoming CEO will report to the existing Equinox Board.
Expectations and Duties:The CEO will possess a high level of business and management skill and is responsible for assuring the overall financial and structural sustainability of the organization. In conjunction with the CFO, the CEO will be responsible for budget planning, management of all financial matters and ensuring compliance with all government laws and regulations. The CEO will provide leadership in crafting strategic vision and strategy for Equinox in tandem with the board, leadership team, Whitney Young Health and other community partners. Additionally, the successful candidate will have demonstratable competency in successful engagement with donors and community leaders. Finally, the CEO will be committed to fostering, cultivating and preserving a culture of inclusion and diversity.
