The mission of the Information Technology Group (ITG) is to develop, implement and maintain technology-based services and solutions enabling OHSU to effectively manage information to accomplish its missions.

Function/Duties of Position

The Chief Health Information Officer (CHIO) provides executive leadership and management for OHSU Health toward the safe and efficient design, implementation, and use of clinical informatics solutions to deliver improvements safety, quality, patient experience, and value. This includes providing expert clinical informatics advice and guidance; working collaboratively with others to ensure patient and clinical involvement in the planning, development, delivery, and evaluation of systems and services; and championing the use of informatics as an enabler of change and quality improvement. This position is integral to the overall strategic alignment and execution of traditional, as well as digital health solutions, and is grounded in population health management principles with clinical work.  The CHIO provides subject matter assistance on committees that are integral to healthcare.

 

The CHIO has both a strategic and operational leadership role and works closely with the VP for Health System Applications, the Chief Information Technology, Security and Privacy Officer.  The CHIO is responsible for relationship building with clinical leadership across ambulatory and inpatient (Department Chairs, Nursing Executives) and Institute Leadership (Ophthalmology, Oncology and Cardiovascular).

Required Qualifications

Education: 

MD. Informatics formal training or experience necessary; experience leading healthcare informatics large scale initiatives

Experience:

5-7 years experience in medical information technology

Job Related Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

The Chief Health Information Officer will be a physician with recent medical practice required. 

Registrations, Certifications, and/or Licenses:

MD Preferred Qualifications

Education:

Master’s degree: MBA, MHA, MS, MMM or equivalent preferred

Experience:

Experience working in Academic Medical Center with close ties to community hospitals.Experience in mergers/acquisitions.

Job Related Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Training in medical informatics is highly desirable

Registrations, Certifications, and/or Licenses:
