As a leader in investigations and fire safety, this position will look strategically at how the State Fire Marshal division supports the fire service across the state. This position is responsible for the direct supervision of personnel assigned to Fire Investigations. Responsibilities include overseeing the team members' workload and achieving the division/program's goals and objectives, performing fire and arson training, and assisting in formulating and implementing division policy and procedure. This position will guide the development of policy and procedure for the fire investigation unit and strategically plan for future needs of the team. **Minimum Qualifications** The following must be included and clearly state in application and/or resume to be considered eligible for this position: + Three (3) years of professional experience supervising staff or managing programs having the primary responsibility for fire investigation/inspection. + Three (3) years professional experience in a position where the primary responsibility was fire prevention, fire investigation or fire training. Candidates will be further assessed on the following: + Demonstrated experience in public speaking and/or delivery of training/educational programs. + Demonstrated experience in problem-solving and independent decision-making relative to fire service administration, or state/local government agencies. + Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate orally, in writing, by telephone, and at meetings or public gatherings. + Possess and maintain the ability to operate a state-owned vehicle in compliance with all applicable laws and requirements. + Ability to work cooperatively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and underserved communities. **Preferred Qualifications** 1. Bachelor's or Associate degree in fire administration, public administration or a related field 2. Five (5) years professional experience in a position where the primary responsibility was fire prevention, fire investigation or fire training 3. Professional certification from a national credentialing agency in the following: Fire Investigator, Fire Instructor I & II 4. Knowledge of computer software programs such as Microsoft Office applications and Internet Explorer. 5. International Association of Arson Investigators (IAAI) Certified Fire Investigator (CFI) or National Association of Fire Investigators (NAFI) Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator (CFEI) within one year of hire. **Physical Requirements** Requires occasionally moving and transporting such articles as file boxes and heavy hand tools or heavier materials with help from others, and moving and transporting light objects frequently.
