SUMMARY:
The Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO) at Johns Hopkins Hospital (JHH) serves as the primary physician leader for the strategic deployment of health IT systems, including the Epic EHR and other clinical communication technologies. This role focuses on aligning IT systems to meet the needs of clinicians, supporting education and research at the School of Medicine, and ensuring a seamless integration of clinical workflows with innovative technologies.
Key responsibilities include collaborating across the Johns Hopkins Health System (JHHS) to maintain a unified informatics strategy, driving adoption of AI and digital health tools, and enhancing quality, safety, and clinician satisfaction. The CMIO acts as a critical liaison between clinical, operational, and IT teams, overseeing governance, workflow optimization, and compliance with IT security and privacy policies.
Additionally, the CMIO champions education in clinical informatics, promotes effective communication strategies, and monitors the impact of technology to continuously improve clinical operations and return on investment. The position contributes to JHH’s strategic goals, fostering innovation to advance clinical, educational, research, and operational excellence.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Reports directly to the VPMA of the Johns Hopkins Hospital and the CMIO- JHM and works collaboratively across the enterprise.

Proven leadership experience in clinical informatics within a complex healthcare setting. Extensive experience with Epic or other enterprise EHR systems, including implementation, optimization, and governance. Demonstrated ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including IT, clinical, and operational leaders. Experience in developing and implementing clinical workflows, protocols, and system usage policies. Familiarity with emerging healthcare technologies, including AI and digital health innovations. Knowledge of privacy, security, and regulatory compliance in healthcare IT. Track record of driving quality improvement, provider satisfaction, and operational efficiency through technology. Experience in teaching or mentoring in clinical informatics is a plus.SKILLS
Understanding of budget and fiscal management requirements. Experience with broad multi-disciplinary teams. Excellent written and oral communication skills.Salary Range: Minimum $355,000-Maximum $460,000. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility.
