Chief Medical Officer, Behavioral Health Service Line
Job Overview:
The Chief Medical Officer for the Behavioral Health Service Line ensures high quality, patient centered care by leading clinical practice and quality initiatives, in alignment with service line and system strategy, to achieve nationally recognized healthcare delivery and outcome standards. This is a corporate level position requiring a licensed physician to provide overall clinical leadership and direct supervision of psychiatric providers across the Service Line.
The CMO will collaborate with other Chief Medical Officers and physician leaders throughout RWJBarnabas Health and Rutgers Health and promote the overall success of the enterprise while partnering with leadership in other health professions to foster an interprofessional team-based environment.

The Chief Medical Officer, Behavioral Health Services reports directly to the RWJBarnabas Health SVP for Behavioral Health Services with a matrixed reporting structure to the System Chief Medical and Quality Officer.Qualifications:

Clinical Leadership
Serves as an integral member of the RWJBH Behavioral Health Service Line leadership teamWorks in close partnership with the service line Chief Nursing Officer (CNO), and other key service line leaders and key functions, including safety, quality, and patient experience; the CMO leads efforts to ensure optimal outcomes for all patientsWorks collaboratively with the SVP, and Behavioral Health Service Line leadership team, to leverage cross-program strengths and integration of services, taking advantage of new opportunities, and addressing organizational challengesThe CMO is responsible for developing and deploying methods of process improvement designed to enhance and improve clinical quality/safety (zero preventable harm and continuous quality improvement), patient experience and reduce healthcare costsThe CMO is the physician leader for continuous quality improvement, regulatory compliance (including CMS and Joint Commission/DMV requirements), safety, throughput, and effective clinical resource managementThe CMO should be a champion for optimization of Epic and ongoing use of the Vizient Clinical Database for benchmarking and process improvementPhysician and Advanced Practice Provider (APP) oversight
Leads and directs the development, implementation, and monitoring of quality psychiatric services and initiatives, including clinical protocols and policiesDirectly supervises the psychiatric provider team and assures that clinical care is consistent with the scope of practice, organizational requirements, professional standards of care, and are carried out in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, laws governing business operations, and requirements of accreditation agenciesDirects the Departments to ensure that each physician and APP on the Medical Staff has an annual performance review and maintains all requirements associated with Ongoing Professional Practice EvaluationStrengthen relationships with voluntary members of the medical staff; develop onboarding and mentoring programs for new physiciansEnsures the highest levels of professionalism in the work environmentCentral Medical Staff Office
Collaborates with system and System CMO for Medical Affairs on a central medical staff office to include credentialing, peer review and bylaws management, corrective actionCollaborate to implement standardized physician orientation and onboarding with Central Medical Staff OfficeCollaborate to create standardized Chairs and Chiefs Manual with Central Medical Staff OfficeCollaboration and Partnerships
Create a strong sense of teamwork and unity, and enhance engagement and satisfaction for physicians, nurses, and other clinical staffPartner with leadership in other health profession training programs to create a culture of interprofessional collaboration and growth.Build and maintain strong collaborations with academic institutions, research organizations, and industry partners to enhance clinical outcomesWorks with Medical Staff governance to champion engagement and wellness activities (such as Schwartz Rounds)Strong collaboration with other senior leaders accountable for the Health System s Human Resources and Barnabas Health Medical GroupCollaborate with System Physician Recruitment, Service lines/Medical Group in the recruitment of new physicians and APPs to their respective facilitiesQuality Improvement:
