Responsibilities Job Summary The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) – HonorHealth Medical Group (HHMG) Primary Care is responsible for leadership development, strategy development, cultural alignment, and clinical quality and safety in the HHMG Primary Care division practices, and is jointly responsible, working in collaboration with HHMG Director of Operations, Primary Care for clinical, operational, and financial (both FFS and value-based) performance of the Primary care division practices and clinics. Responsibilities include maintaining and improving the leadership and performance competencies of the Primary Care ACMOs and Medical Directors, promoting HonorHealth cultural norms within the primary care division practices, developing primary care division strategic plans, assuring physician/provider quality and productivity, physician/provider recruitment, physician/provider staffing, , clinical compliance training, and leading organizational improvement initiatives and educational training programs for the Primary Care division practices. The CMO assists in overseeing the Primary Care division ancillary services. The Chief Medical Officer provides recommendations and clinical objectives to the contracting department for primary care-related health plan contracting, works with primary care division physicians/providers and revenue cycle personnel to ensure optimal coding, documentation, and revenue capture, collaborates with the operations team in administrative matters, provides Primary Care division updates to the HonorHealth Medical Group Executive Steering Committee, HonorHealth senior executive leadership, and HonorHealth Board of Directors (upon request), partners with legal on patient grievances, and oversees primary care physician/provider peer review (utilizing Medical Staff processes, when necessary and appropriate). The CMO also advises on information system needs and analytics and represents the Primary Care division on many network-level committees. In addition, the CMO works with CMO – HHMG Specialty Care Division, CMO – HHMG Urgent Care Division, hospital CMOs, ICP leadership, VP Caregiver Wellness and Patient Experience, and (as needed) Medical Staff leadership on network-level initiatives. Partners with primary division ACMOs and medical directors, and their operational dyads, to develop and implement the vision and strategies for delivering high-value clinical care, market share growth, and operational efficiency across the HonorHealth Primary Care division practices. Aligns HonorHealth primary care expansion strategy with Network strategic objectives, and to meet the needs of patients and employees, potentially including development and execution of strategies that lead to market growth, and as-needed serve both value-based and fee-for-service market objectives. Manages conduct, professional development, and leadership development for the Primary Care Division physicians and advanced practice providers. Responsible to develop and address provider performance expectations. Accountable to identify and implement Medical Group Primary Care clinical quality, safety, and productivity standards. Execute to these standards, at or above targets and benchmarks developed in consultation with the Medical Group Executive Steering Committee. Works with Network Quality and Safety leadership (including active collaboration with SVP – Chief Quality and Clinical Value Officer), and ICP leadership, to align quality and safety goals of the Primary Care Divisions with Network-level Quality and Safety goals and ICP Value-based goals. Partners with HHMG VP – COO and HHMG – VP Finance, in collaboration with appropriate Medical Group and Network leaders, to develop HHMG primary care division business plans and capital proposals designed to achieve the growth and clinical-program related goals of the organization. Assist in developing focused marketing and business development strategies, including strategies to improve access to care by optimizing and expanding use of existing clinics, development of new clinics, and optimizing digital options (virtual care, remote patient monitoring, etc.). Oversees employed physician recruitment, employed APP recruitment with goal of optimizing recruitment strategy to meet network access-to-care needs, continued growth in attributed lives, and attracting/retaining primary care expertise to support Clinical Service Lines and Programs. Works to ensure adequate physician and APP staffing levels, inclusive of hiring/onboarding, and evaluating and managing performance. Works with physicians and APPs to achieve compliance with all policies and procedures. Assures that the HHMG Primary Care Divisions, and the employed Physicians and APPs within those divisions, understand and are committed to executing HonorHealth’s strategic plan. Partners with the Network Strategic Planning Team, HHMG VP – Chief Operating Officer, SVP – Chief Growth Officer, other HHMG CMOs, and Service Line Leaders to regularly refine and update the HHMG Primary Care Division Strategic Plan, in alignment with the Network Strategic Plan. Ensures that all clinicians in the HHMG understand and commit to the strategic imperative of delivering personalized care and service that is consistent with the organization’s mission, vision, and values, while utilizing evidence-based clinical practice standards.
