*POSITION SUMMARY*
The Community Hospital Chief Medical Officer (CMO) will be a key executive at the hospital, overseeing all medical and clinical operations with an emphasis on patient safety, quality care, collaboration, and clinical excellence. The CMO will drive continuous improvement and ensure the highest standards of patient care. Additionally, this role will build positive, quality-enhancing relationships between the Community Hospital and their medical staff, as well as act as a liaison between Health First corporate and other administrative departments, such as quality, patient safety, clinical utilization, risk, and the medical staff. The Community Hospital CMO will be part of the leadership Triad with the Community Hospital President and Vice President of Nursing. This role is deeply committed to the Mission, Vision and Values of Health First, and inspirationally leads the team to achieve the Vision.
*PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITES*
1. Encourage collaboration among healthcare professionals. Promote teamwork and effective communication across departments. Mediate issues between physicians and other departments as part of the Executive Leadership Team. Foster inclusivity to break down silos and achieve team and organizational goals.
2. Serve as a consultant to the organized medical staffs, service line leaders, and medical directors, as well as to contracted, employed, and independent physicians regarding effective engagement initiatives, policies, procedures, and operational drivers of success.
3. Serve as a liaison between the Hospital leaders, the Medical Staff, and Hospital Boards, in regard to patient care, performance improvement, quality & outcomes, patient safety, professional conduct, maintenance of professional standards, and compliance with Hospital and Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules & Regulations, & Policies. Take corrective action when required.
4. Provide advice to the Hospital Division (HD) CMO, HD President, HD COO, Community Hospital President, and Medical Staff President; and work collaboratively on clinical and administrative matters, as well as on policy and public relations issues related to the medical staff and clinical services.
5. Collaborate with the VPN to foster a culture of safety and quality. Oversee quality assurance programs and identify improvement opportunities. Advocate for patient-centered care, respecting patients' needs and preferences. Contribute to system-wide patient safety and quality initiatives, aligning medical staff with executive goals.
6. Lead medical staff with recruitment, retention, and professional growth. Mentor and support clinical leaders and physicians. Provide guidance, motivation, coaching, and feedback to develop a high-performing team.
7. Work closely with Medical Staff President and Hospital President to promote a medical staff culture of quality care, safety, and clinical excellence.
8. Oversee the review, analysis and evaluation of patient care in the hospital by working with Medical Staff officers, Department Chairs, and Committees, and assisting them to carry out their respective functions
9. Lead emergency preparedness plans and protocols to effectively engage the medical staff in response to facility, community, regional disasters/crises.
10. Contribute to the development of the hospital's strategic plan, ensuring alignment with clinical goals and community health needs.
11. Monitor annual work plan progress and key performance indicators (KPIs) related to quality, safety, patient experience, employee and medical staff satisfaction, growth, and financial performance. various physician performance metrics such as core measures, 30-day readmissions, improving HCAHPS communication scores, etc.
12. Promote a culture of innovation and continuous learning. Implement evidence-based practices and innovations in patient care. Lead or support initiatives to enhance patient experience and outcomes, implement best practices, and ensure adherence to evidence-based guidelines to achieve exceptional results. Support staff through transitions, ensuring successful implementation of new processes.

*MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS*
* Education: Any one of the following:
o Doctorate’s degree in Medicine (MD) OR
o Doctorate’s degree in Osteopathy Medicine (DO).
* Work Experience: Minimum of ten (10) years of clinical experience, including five (5) years in a medical staff leadership role or as a physician executive.
* Licensure: Active unrestricted Medical License in the State of Florida.
* Certification: Board certified in a relevant medical specialty.
* Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
o Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to assess complex situations and develop effective solutions.
o Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and effectively to diverse audiences.
o Communicate effectively, explain the value to the organization, and understand team impact to secure commitment.
o Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire teams, foster a culture of quality improvement, and drive organizational change.
o Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships with stakeholders at all levels, including physicians, nurses, administrators, and external partners.
o Proficiency in data analysis tools, quality improvement methodologies (e.g., Six Sigma, Lean), and healthcare information systems.
o Strong knowledge of clinical governance, quality improvement methodologies, and healthcare regulations.
o Intermediate computer skills, time management, program development and management, action plan development and data analysis.
o A strong commitment to improving healthcare quality and patient safety.
o High ethical standards and integrity in all professional interactions.
o Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic healthcare environment and manage stress effectively.
o Willingness to adapt to changing circumstances and take on new challenges as needed.
o Commitment to continuous professional development and staying current with industry trends and best practices.
*PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS*
* Education: Master’s degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, or Medical Management.
* Work Experience: Experience in Medical Staff Governance, Clinical Utilization, and Clinical Documentation.
* Skills/Knowledge/Abilities: Familiarity with healthcare technology and data analytics.
* Certification: Certified Executive Physician (CPE).
*PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*
* Majority of time involves sitting or standing; occasional walking, bending, and stooping.
* Long periods of computer time or at workstation.
* Light work that may include lifting or moving objects up to 20 pounds with or without assistance.
* May be exposed to inside environments with varied temperatures, air quality, lighting and/or low to moderate noise.
* Communicating with others to exchange information.
* Visual acuity and hand-eye coordination to perform tasks.
* Workspace may vary from open to confined, onsite, or remote.
* May require travel to various facilities within and beyond county perimeter; may require use of personal vehicle.
