The University of Miami Health System Department of Radiology has an exciting opportunity for a Chief Nuclear Medicine Technologist to work in Plantation. The incumbent provides administrative oversight for the Nuclear Medical Technology Department. Additionally, the incumbent performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, specializing in radiopharmacy, the administration of diagnostic radiopharmaceuticals, quality control, and radiation protection.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
Oversees the activities, workflow, scheduling, productivity, and quality of staff members. Completes yearly performance appraisals for the staff and handles requests for merit increases, promotions, and disciplinary actions.
Verifies patients’ ID by checking their name and date of birth.
Asks patients to describe level of discomfort and looks for evidence of pain prior, during, and at the completion of exams.
Obtains necessary consent from patients.
Maintains and cleans all equipment in accordance with decontamination procedures.
Verifies proper radiopharmaceutical by checking outside label on unit dose container and the syringe.
Maintains accurate and complete patient records, in both paper and electronic format.
Assays radiopharmaceutical in dose calibrator and records activity amount on patients’ dose slip.
Selects optimum instrument and collimation to be used, determines and adjusts settings on camera and computer control panels, and positions patient and camera to yield desired view.
Utilizes aseptic technique for injected radiopharmaceuticals administered to patients.
Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures. Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.

Education:
Bachelor’s degree in relevant field
Certification and Licensing:
Certification in relevant specialty or field
Experience:
Minimum 5 years of relevant experience

Knowledge of business and management principles
Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations.
Ability to establish department goals, and objectives that support the strategic plan.
Ability to effectively plan, delegate and/or supervise the work of others.
