Chief of Staff for GFANZ, Public Policy - 2 year fixed term contract
The Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ) is a global coalition of financial institutions committed to accelerating the decarbonization of the economy in line with government commitments under the Paris Agreement. Over 675 financial institutions from more than 50 jurisdictions have individually committed to the goal of net zero by 2050, in line with science-based pathways to limit warming to 1.5 degrees C, and GFANZ was established in 2021 as a forum for delivering sector-wide policy solutions to support these transition, Learn more about GFANZ at www.gfanzero.com.  
As an integral part of progressing our work, GFANZ engages with a broad set of public, private and third sector bodies, and this includes regular engagement with international organizations, international standard setters, and national policymakers across the G7, G20 and beyond. To support effective engagement and help ensure that as a team we are prioritising our efforts appropriately, delivering high quality work, and have effective external communication, we are looking for a self-starting, well-organised, analytically strong chief of staff with excellent communication skills. 
The job holder will support GFANZ Public Policy and the wider policy team to succeed in an intellectually engaging and fast-paced environment.  The role would suit someone who is relatively early in their career and looking to quickly gain a rounded insight into the most critical issues in climate mitigation policy at the point where public and private sector action intersect, and who would like to learn about how climate and financial sector policy gets made at the most senior levels internationally.
We will trust you to:Support senior stakeholders, working with the wider team, to develop and implement an ambitious approach to our external policy engagement, ensuring we identify opportunities across major moments in the international calendar, including G7, G20, and COP, and structure engagement that advances our priorities;Support senior leadership on key external engagement and communication by taking a proactive approach to identifying and prioritising across engagement opportunities (incl climate weeks, COP etc), preparing speaking remarks and presentations, leading on team engagement with our internal comms team, and supporting on some international travel; Take the lead on a portfolio of climate finance policy work, developing policy analysis for use by the wider policy team, both to support our core deliverables as well as to support ad hoc briefing and engagement on specific topics, and supporting the management of our policy workstream; Coordinate our team input and comments to both internal and external analytical and policy work, ensuring that we convey our policy feedback strategically and clearly; Ensure that as a team we follow up on requests from our own leadership and external partners in a timely manner, including commissioning work from others and ensuring it addresses the points raised; Substitute in for the MD and Global Head in some international meetings, taking notes of the discussion and debriefing the team thereafter. Expectations:A relevant degree or several years of relevant work experience in an area of climate policy, economic or financial policy, public administration, or in business or finance. A keen interest in building an understanding of the state of play on public and financial policy as it pertains to climate and net zero transition, and how this policy is evolving as new approaches – such as transition finance and planning - are developed; A self-starting problem-solving and sensitive approach to ensuring our team delivers effectively, working effectively across our responsibilities, recognising the responsibilities of the senior team leads and team members; Excellent analytical skills such that you can independently undertake research to support our work, whether for speech, briefing, report, or external engagement; Strong written communication skills that you can deploy to write speaking remarks, and at times speeches, briefings for our senior leadership, and other policy materials and external communications and strong verbal communication skills such that you can engage across our internal and external stakeholders effectively; A very strong team player, willing to develop strong relationships across GFANZ and our policy team, and with key stakeholders beyond, and to pitch in and support work as and when needed; A willingness to support administration for the MD and Global Head, including ensuring important meetings are scheduled and logistical arrangements made, that key work and briefing deadlines are met and to support and participate in international travel.
