Responsibilities include on-site management and coordination through matrix relationships, as well as ensuring seamless integration across all levels of the organization. The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional strategic thinking, operational expertise, and a commitment to fostering a collaborative and high-performing organizational culture. The COO will uphold quality, innovation, and patient-centered care, driving OMC’s strategic growth, community engagement, and team member retention goals.
Scope of Position:
I. Operational Leadership & Strategy Execution
+ Collaborate with the Executive and Senior Leadership teams to drive the implementation of strategic initiatives, ensuring the provision of necessary resources, support, and accountability to achieve organizational goals.
+ Oversee the review and alignment of key metrics, tracking hospital performance, and addressing any deviations.
+ Develop and defend operational goals, adapting plans to meet organizational demands.
+ Coordinate and prepare strategic reports and presentations for executive reviews, quarterly operations, and medical executive committees.
+ Meet routinely with initiative leaders, providing resources and holding teams accountable for deadlines and deliverables.
+ Keep leadership informed with pertinent updates and proactively address trends, barriers, and challenges affecting execution.
II. Growth & Service Line Liaison
+ Drive development of new business strategies to enhance market share and hospital performance, with a deep understanding of the market and its diverse communities.
+ Act as primary liaison for OMC facilitating interactions between hospital resources, service lines and Atlantic Medical Group leaders to meet growth objectives.
+ Coordinate with corporate and local resources to define roles, goals, and expectations, ensuring seamless collaboration across hospitals and teams to align and execute the AHS strategy.
III. Community Engagement & Representation
+ Serve as the hospital representative with key community stakeholders, fostering relationships with local government, first responders, nonprofits, and educational institutions.
+ Proactively communicate with community leaders, supporting collaborative efforts for community well-being and hospital preparedness.
+ Remain aware of community VIP visits to the hospital, whether as visitors or patients.
IV. Team Member Engagement & Retention
+ Lead hospital-wide engagement and retention strategies using survey insights to enhance team member satisfaction and plan well-spaced events.
+ Ensure inclusivity by integrating diverse team members into all engagement activities.
+ Serve as the primary liaison for corporate and Overlook Auxiliary engagement events.
+ Foster community by connecting celebrations to meaningful team experiences.
+ Collaborate with leadership to recognize team member, medical staff, and hospital achievements.
V. Senior Leadership Team (SLT) & Management Team Coordination
+ Prepare and facilitate weekly SLT meetings and monthly management team meetings, coordinating agendas, presentation reviews, and group decision-making processes.
+ Ensure SLT and Management Team are well-informed on operational metrics, ongoing initiatives, both local and enterprise wide, and workflows to foster a streamlined approach across hospital operations.
VI. Facilities & Environment Management
+ Collaborate with key AHS executives to ensure the hospital environment is welcoming, clean, and patient-centric, overseeing facility aesthetics, furnishings, and signage.
+ Utilize a matrix approach to provide oversight on capital projects and space utilization, ensuring effective on-site execution to enhance patient and visitor experiences.
+ Coordinate with key leaders to maintain alignment on project objectives, timeline, and budget.
+ Oversee sustainability initiatives to promote environmentally responsible operations and energy efficiency.
+ Lead emergency preparedness efforts, ensuring hospital readiness for crises and compliance with regulatory requirements.
+ Provide strategic oversight of hospital expansion projects, including infrastructure development and facility upgrades to support future growth.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
+ MBA/MHA or equivalent required.
+ A minimum of 10-15 years of successful progressive healthcare management experience with an integrated health system.
+ A thorough understanding of the health care environment and patient care standards reflected in federal and state regulation along with operational compliance requirements. (e.g., Joint Commission accreditation, HCAHPS, etc.)
+ An individual who has successfully driven initiatives that require coordination from multiple constituencies such as, finance, information systems and laboratory services.
+ Highly developed expertise in quantitative analyses to define and support facility goals (e.g., builds a solid financial business case for expansion)
+ A leader who is a humble servant leader and can work with all levels within the organization so that the entire enterprise “wins” together.
