Job Summary The Class IV Chief Operator is responsible for operation and maintenance of the wastewater treatment process; solids management processing and disposal; pumping facilities and the sewer collection system. The Operator is responsible for ensuring all facilities and assets are in compliance with state and federal regulations; NPDES permit requirements and other permit requirements are met and associated reports are submitted to CTDEEP and USEPA as required. The Chief Operator will report to the Manager of Wastewater Operations. Principal Responsibilities + Responsible for following all related permits and associated state and federal regulations; and meeting the Company’s key performance indicators. + Responsible for operation of the wastewater treatment plant process and equipment; pumping stations, and collection system to ensure compliance with the NPDES permit and meet company performance targets. + Responsible for completion of reports, records, logs, graphs, and information within SCADA to confirm systems are operating properly and that needed materials and resources are in place for proper operation of the wastewater facilities. + Responsible for monitoring operating conditions, meters, gauges, treatment cycles, pumping equipment and collection system for proper operation. + Assist Manager of Wastewater Operations in development of yearly, monthly, and weekly inspection, operational and maintenance plans for all wastewater treatment, pumping and collection system assets. Implement plans with operations staff to meet schedule and performance, as required or agreed. + Responsible for inspection of all facilities on a scheduled basis to ensure proper operation and maintenance. + Provide leadership to the operations team as it relates to quality of work, work hours, training, and overall day to day operations. + Prepares and submit reports to regulatory agencies on the prescribed basis within existing permits and/or regulations. + Identify improvements to improve reliability, regulatory compliance, and cost effectiveness. + Responsible for safety, plant appearance, environmental issues, compliance with regulations and permits pertaining wastewater discharges, pollution prevention, stormwater, generator use and other federal and state regulations. + Assist Manager of Wastewater Operations in maintaining up to date Emergency Response Plans and plan of action to address emergencies such as equipment, machinery or power failure, flooding, extreme cold temperatures, and other situations that may arise. + Maintains positive relationships with operations and administrative staff, community officials, regulators, and customers. + Implements CMOM Plan related to wastewater collection system. + Responsible for meeting safety and other performance metrics on a monthly and yearly basis. + Responsible for emergency calls and as need and working extended hours to accommodate operational needs and requirements. Preferred Requirements + Understanding and experience with wastewater processes, industry, SCADA, data management and reporting. + Ability to operate equipment, machines, pumps, and wastewater treatment process to meet or exceed permit and process requirements. + Ability to work in a team environment and willingness to help others, provide training and take on additional responsibilities. + Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with ability to diagnose process and mechanical problems; determine root cause and take corrective action. + Excellent verbal and written communication skills + Experience and ability to work with peers and collaborate effectively with regulators, public officials, and senior management. + Proficient computer skills with experience with Microsoft Products (Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, TEAMS) and SAP. + Proficient with use and operation of SCADA, WIMS, auto dialers and other communication and measurement equipment. + Ability to complete various task that require standing, sitting, and walking throughout the day and will be required to use stairs and ladders. + While performing work the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, talk, or hear, and occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, and enter confined spaces. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus. May occasionally be required to lift 50 to 60 pounds. Education/Certifications + CT Class IV Wastewater Treatment License and Collections System License required. + OHSA 10 and Confined Space Training preferred. + Valid Driver’s License and safe driving record required; CDL and hoisting preferred. Salary + Job is classified as a non-exempt position with an annual salary range of $97,727.76 to $107,211.38. + This position is broken into 8-hour shifts, Monday through Friday, with a 30-minute non-paid lunch period. + This position will be reporting to the Ansonia Wastewater Treatment Plant (Ansonia, CT).
