**The Role**
Reporting to the Chief Philanthropy and Health Equity Officer for the South Division, the Chief Philanthropy Officer for Providence Humboldt County serves as a key leadership team member and an active participant in making strategic decisions affecting the Foundation. In partnership with the South Division CPO & Health Equity Officer, this position is responsible for fundraising and development of major gift activities related to Humboldt County's key Institutes, service lines, campuses, and relevant medical programs.
**What You’ll Do:**
The Chief Philanthropy Officer will also work closely with the Foundation Board of Directors, Senior Director of Philanthropy, Campaigns, and Senior Director of Philanthropy, Donor Relations. The Chief Philanthropy Officer will mentor and coach the philanthropy officers (development officers) and respective support staff on the major gifts team to identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major gift donors, and identify opportunities to strengthen, leverage, and engage the organization's constituents and volunteers in meaningful ways. The Chief Philanthropy Officer leads a multi-year effort to substantially grow the Foundation's annual philanthropic support. As part of the Foundation's leadership team, the Chief Philanthropy Officer shall assist with developing a system-wide philanthropy vision and strategy aligned with the Foundation's strategic goals and priorities. The Chief Philanthropy Officer shall assist in planning, developing, organizing, implementing, directing, and evaluating all the Foundation's major gift activities to ensure all short and long-term objectives are fully achieved. The Chief Philanthropy Officer develops new and more diverse sources of philanthropic support by emphasizing major gifts and seven-figure+ transformational gifts in order to generate an ROI that justifies a growing investment of resources in the Foundation's fundraising capacity. The Chief Philanthropy Officer drives and implements a culture of philanthropy throughout Humboldt County, and works closely with Institute leadership, physician leaders, and other caregivers to improve and expand the Foundation's grateful patient fundraising programs. At all times, the Chief Philanthropy Officer partners with Foundation leadership to identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward key individuals, foundations, corporations, and others. The Chief Philanthropy Officer manages a portfolio of approximately 50 major/principal gift-level prospects and donors and is responsible for achieving a personal philanthropic revenue goal each year.
**Essential Functions:**
+ Develops and builds teams to achieve a high degree of success in executing the strategic plan and delivering on philanthropic results.
+ Functions as a visionary strategic thinker, setting the strategic and annual operating plan to achieve the goals of the Foundation.
+ Serves as a member of the Executive Leadership Team. Works collaboratively with the senior leadership team and with medical staff leaders to identify organizational priorities, including clinical program development and capital needs.
+ Provides leadership to the Foundation team. Interviews, hires, trains, directs, and evaluates the performance of Foundation staff. Structures the Foundation staff for maximum effectiveness, motivates, develops a strong team, and leads the Foundation staff to maximize their fundraising expertise.
+ Develops and administers the Foundation’s budget consistent with the operating and strategic plans.
+ Develops annual tactical goals, objectives, performance metrics, and key performance indicators to track Foundation success.
+ Develops, secures approval of, and successfully implements effective short and long-range strategic philanthropic plans designed to enable the hospital to fulfill its mission and achieve its strategic objectives through increased philanthropic support.
+ Maintains professional contact with community organizations, other institutions, associations, and organizations that affect hospital development programs.
+ Maintains open communication with other foundation executives and staff within Providence, ensuring the exchange of ideas and information that would help promote success in all foundations.
+ Works effectively with the Foundation Board of Directors in their responsibilities as the fundraising arm of the hospital. Develops an effective structure for the Board; ensures that the Board is able to achieve its goals and priorities, consistent with the philanthropic strategic plan.
+ Assists the Board in the creation and implementation of policies and procedures that will ensure utilization of the most effective, economical, and ethical methods of fundraising.
+ Organizes the Board for maximum efficiency and ensures that Foundation Board Members’ time and talents are well-utilized to make optimal philanthropic impact. Recruits new Board Members as needed.
+ Responsible for the development of principal and major gift prospects for the medical center and for maintaining and building relationships with existing donors.
+ Confers with the appropriate hospital leadership to identify key organizational needs and develops presentations, case statements, and compelling stories for support from prospective donors. Works in close collaboration with the marketing department to ensure consistent brand identity in philanthropic efforts; directs the preparation of all printed materials.
**What You’ll Bring:**
+ Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education and experience required; Master’s Degree preferred.
+ 10 or more years of experience in running a comprehensive fund development organization including comprehensive campaigns, major, principal, and planned gift programs, fundraising events, annual giving, and grants procurement.
+ 10 or more years of experience in philanthropy-related leadership, ideally in a medical setting.
+ Extensive knowledge of philanthropy, principal, major, and planned gifts, grant proposal preparation, accounting, and statistics in order to express ideas clearly and to develop strategies and plans for long-range and immediate fund development programs.
+ Strong strategic skills with the ability to develop, articulate, and communicate a strategic vision to the Board, staff, community, and hospital leadership team; leads and facilitates Foundation team members’ success in strategic objectives.
+ Proven track record in achieving success with principal and major gifts, planned giving, and enabling transformational gifts.
+ Advanced interpersonal skills in order to deal effectively and persuasively with a variety of influential internal and external contacts when eliciting cooperation and support for the medical center.
+ Strong leadership and organizational skills to lead the board of directors, volunteers, and staff of the Foundation.
+ Advanced analytical skills in order to determine effective fund development strategies, identify potential sources of contributions, and develop short- and long-term development goals and objectives of the hospital.
+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
