Chief Surveyor
Utilizes methods and techniques consistent with good surveying practices resulting in an accuracy level that meets or exceeds the accuracy specified in the design documents
Selects and uses the appropriate surveying instruments and equipment best suited for the job
Provides the proper care, maintenance, checking, adjusting, and repair of surveying instruments and equipment
Prepares and maintains complete and accurate field survey notes, including numerical calculations and clear, neat sketches to provide a record of the survey party’s activities
Provides measurements and data to support the preparation of as-built drawings
Establishes quantities for progress and cost reports and for the verification of payments to contractors
Establishes and maintains a staff of qualified personnel as required to meet the projects surveying requirements
- Coordinates and schedules survey activities with construction supervision
Remains knowledgeable of safety policies and procedures and performs assigned duties in a safe manner and, while supervising others, has responsibility for their safety and ensures that they comply with established safety policies and procedures and practice safe work habits
- Supervises and manages a field engineering organization consisting of multiple survey parties, which provide the accurate location and layout of the work within the lines, grades, and elevations indicated on the design drawings
- Determines the composition of field survey parties and the required equipment, methods, techniques, and procedures to be utilized by field engineering crews
- Other duties as assigned
