Employment Type: Permanent Faculty Vacancy ID: FAC0005447 Position Summary/Description: The Department of Psychiatry at the University of North Carolina ( UNC ) School of Medicine at Chapel Hill is seeking a psychologist specializing in child and adolescent mental health to join their outpatient team. The University is committed to the expansion of child and adolescent mental health and to the increased access to high quality, empirically validated therapeutic services for adolescents and young adults with more significant risk or mental health conditions. The position would primarily involve outpatient work at the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Program in Chapel Hill, NC and will ideally engage referrals from the local Youth Behavioral Health hospital, inpatient units, and intensive outpatient program ( IOP ) at UNC . Primary duties will involve providing outpatient psychotherapy to children, adolescents, and young adults and offering neurocognitive testing and personality or behavioral structure assessments to these population increasing access to care and treatment planning. Additional opportunities would include teaching and supervising psychiatry residents, medical students, and other healthcare trainees who rotate throughout the department. This position will include direct patient care both in-person and in virtual contexts, and may also include settings within the larger UNC hospital (e.g., programming work on the child and adolescent inpatient units; therapy services within the Center for Women’s Mood Disorders). There are also opportunities for providing group, family, and/or parenting therapy services, depending on the clinical interests of the faculty member. An expectation of the position will be the supervision of graduate level psychology students. Given this position’s primary aim of providing services to youth discharging from intensive programs, the ideal candidate will have a background in addressing complex mental health concerns and/or trauma and managing high-risk clients, with a focus on treating mood disorders and/or serious mental health presentations. Faculty will be required to provide outpatient therapy to approximately 24 patients per week. As a member of the faculty at the University of North Carolina Department of Psychiatry the position will require teaching and supervision as described below and engagement in research. Research expectations will depend on the interests and prior investment in research on behalf of the qualified candidate.
