Summary About the position: This position is located at the Child Development Center on Grand Forks AFB. Department of the Air Force Child and Youth Programs Employee Child Care Discount applicable to this position (see Additional Information). This is an open continuous announcement. The first cut-off date for this position will be Monday, November, 18th 2024 Pay will be set based on experience and education and/or certification. Intermediate Level: $ 19.30 Entry Level: $ 18.21 Responsibilities CHILD AND YOUTH PROGRAM ASSISTANT (ALL LEVELS): The incumbent will serve as a Child and Youth Program Assistant (CYPA) in one or more child and youth programs and will be accountable for the whereabouts and safety of children and youth. Provides care/supervision, oversight and accountability for program participants. Assists in preparing age appropriate activities; supervises children and youth during indoor and outdoor activities, on field trips, outings and special events; arranges and serves snacks/meals. Executes work in accordance with policies and regulations. May be required to transport children in government vehicles. CHILD AND YOUTH PROGRAM ASSISTANT (INTERMEDIATE LEVEL): Assists in planning, coordinating, and conducting activities for program participants including group as well as individual child and youth activities. Establishes a program environment that sustains participant interest and promotes positive child and youth interactions with other children, youth, and adults. Helps prepare, arrange, and maintain indoor and outdoor activity areas and materials to accommodate a daily schedule. Assists children and youth with special projects, and life skills. Participates in conferences with parents and staff. Reviews and implements daily schedules and activity plans to ensure age/stage appropriateness. Interacts with children and youth using approved child guidance and youth development techniques. Interacts professionally with staff members, parents, supervisors, and volunteers. Promotes and models safety, fitness, health, and nutrition practices. Cares for special needs children and youth as directed by the supervisor. Notifies supervisor of health, fire, and safety compliance concerns. Helps arrange for/serve appropriate snacks/meals where applicable. Observes program participants for signs that may indicate illness, abuse or neglect and reports as directed. Notes special instructions provided by parents. Ensures children and youth (as applicable) depart with an authorized person according to written instructions. Participates in program evaluations using designated instruments such as programmatic rating scales, risk assessment tools (as required), self-inspection materials and national accreditation tools. Assists in achieving and maintaining DoD certification and national accreditation or equivalent. Provides care/supervision, oversight, and accountability for program participants in compliance with local policies, guidance, and standards. Ensures compliance with policies and regulations applicable to AF Child and Youth Programs. Inventories equipment on a recurring basis and recommends replenishing damaged, missing, and depleted supplies. Secures supplies, equipment, and facilities. Collects, maintains, and reports program participation data. CHILD AND YOUTH PROGRAM ASSISTANT (ENTRY LEVEL): Assists in providing and leading planned activities. Assist children and youth with special projects, homework and life skills. Performs simple routine tasks following step-by-step instructions. Helps establish a program environment and promotes positive child and youth interactions with other children, youth, and adults. Helps prepare, arrange, and maintain indoor and outdoor activity areas and materials to accommodate the daily schedule. Uses prepared curriculum/program materials and assists with developing a list of needed supplies and equipment. Helps create adult-made games and play materials (i.e., mixing paint, play dough, assembling props, activities, etc.) Interacts with children and youth using approved child guidance and youth development techniques as provided by the supervisors. Attends to the physical needs of the children, as applicable. Interacts professionally with staff members, parents, supervisors, and volunteers. Promotes and models safety, fitness, health, and nutrition practices. Cares for special needs children and youth as directed by the supervisor. Notifies supervisor of health, fire and safety compliance concerns. Helps arrange for/serve appropriate snacks/meals, where applicable. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Qualifying Experience: ALL LEVELS Must be a high school graduate, or equivalent; and be able to provide proof (i.e., diploma or equivalent) for verification. AND CY PROGRAM ASSISTANT (INTERMEDIATE LEVEL): CY PROGRAM ASSISTANT (INTERMEDIATE LEVEL): Basic Requirements: Must be at least 18 years of age, hold a high school diploma (or equivalent). Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing. Specialized Requirement: Six months experience equivalent to the CY-01 level working in a group program for children or youth AND Completion of 3 AF modules (or equivalent) AND AF Orientation Training Program; OR 15 semester hours above the high school level in early childhood education, youth development, or related field. Condition of Employment: Must meet specific physical requirements, pass a physical examination, and have required immunizations. Must be able to lift 40 lbs. or more and stand for long periods of time. Must be able to obtain a Food Handler's Certificate. Successful completion and favorable adjudication of applicable background investigation, installation, state, and national criminal background checks is required. Must satisfactorily complete mandatory training as specified below. CY PROGRAM ASSISTANT (ENTRY LEVEL): Basic Requirements: Must be at least 18 years of age, hold a high school diploma (or equivalent). Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing. This is an entry level position no training or experience is required. Condition of Employment: Must meet specific physical requirements, pass a physical examination, and have required immunizations. Must be able to lift 40 lbs or more and stand for long periods of time. Must be able to obtain a Food Handler's Certificate. Successful completion and favorable adjudication of applicable background investigation installation, state and national criminal background checks is required. Must satisfactorily complete mandatory training. Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does allow for education substitution in order to qualify. FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying. Additional Information Child Development Program will provide 100% child care fee discount for all CYP direct care staff for the first child enrolled in a full-time or regular part-time DAF CDP. A 25% discount will apply for any additional children of direct care staff. Direct care staff must spend a minimum of 75% of their work schedule in the classroom and flex employees who average 15 hours a week. Please contact local NAF HR Office for additional information.
