What the Child Life Specialist  will need:

Education- Minimum: Bachelor’s degree, in human development and family studies, child and family studies or a related field.Credentials/Licensure- Minimum: Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS)

Related Experience

Minimum: Completed Clinical Internship with a minimum of 600 hours.Preferred: Clinical experience in a healthcare setting

What the Child Life Specialist will do:

Supporting children and their families by using a variety of tactics learned through education and experience to help the patient better understand a process, procedure, or other element of their medical stay. Creates developmentally appropriate strategies to minimize trauma and increase understanding of a medical diagnosis or process through treatments plans using therapeutic play, education, preparation, and activities. Advocates for the needs of children and their families on an individualized basis. Support therapeutic strategies for those with cognitive impairments or developmental delays to provide equitable care and enhance the patient/family experience. Actively participate as a member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team, integrating plan to promote optimal patient care that is family-centered, developmentally appropriate, culturally sensitive, and psychosocially mindful. Review and assist with care plans on identified patients requiring additional resources during their hospital stay. Providing information, support, and guidance to parents and family members. Non-direct patient care tasks, such as presenting learning opportunities to members of the health care team to educate on best approaches, appropriate interventions, and communication strategies to improve the patient experience. Be a resource for Trinity Health Grand Rapids to help with any pediatric or other patient that would benefit from Child Life Services. Coordinating education and maintaining therapeutic supplies. Performs other related duties as assigned.
