Trinity Health Of New England is looking for an experienced Childbirth Educator/Lactation Consultant (Registered Nurse) to join our team of mission-driven healthcare innovators. The Childbirth Educator/Lactation Consultant is a professional registered nurse who is certified to assist parents in making the transition from the role of expectant parent to the role of responsible parent.  The educator disseminates evidenced-based information dealing with Family-Centered Maternity Care from conception, through pregnancy, childbirth, lactation and into new family life.  The overall goal is to work with the parents and other health professionals to provide the tools that are necessary to cope with pregnancy, labor and delivery and the demands of early parenting.  The educator is qualified to assess the needs of the client, adapt the program to the identified needs, implement a teaching plan and evaluate the outcome.  The educator may also teach Natural Family Planning.  The educator must have an understanding of age ranges from birth through those of childbearing years. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a drive to provide patient-centered experiences through scholarly scientific inquiry, compassion for the human spirit and mind, advocacy and education for the patient and families, and collaboration with all those who touch our patients.

Work Hours/Shift:

24-hour day shift

You Will Be Responsible For:

Exceptional Patient Care: Contributes to overall quality of nursing care through performance improvement techniques that impact patient care positively. 

Excellent Communicator: Communicate effectively (written and verbal) with admin, colleagues, patients and family member. 

Strong Educator: Educate patients and family members so that they have a transparent understanding of the care being provided. 

Technical Familiarity: Understanding in computer-based applications (E-MAR, clinical documentation), email, and standard applications such as Microsoft Office. 

Active Teamwork: Demonstrates problem solving, conflict resolution, and positive communication through teamwork.

Requirements:

Graduate from an accredited school of nursing, BSN preferred, with current Connecticut registration.

  Knowledge of current nursing, medical and health trends and practices.

 BLS Certification required.

Ability to act in a professional capacity and serve as a professional role model.

Delivery room experience preferred.

Prepared Childbirth Educator certification preferred (e.g. Lamaze, ICEA, Bradley, Academy of Certified Birth Educators, etc)

IBCLC certification or eligibility to sit for certification exam is required.
