About the role:
Eurasia Group, the political risk research and advisory firm, is seeking an experienced and motivated senior-director level hire to help guide our coverage of China. The candidate will be a part of Eurasia Group’s growing and market-leading China research team.
This position will involve shaping the firm’s China analysis and client-focused work, and managing a team of analysts. The director will be responsible for ensuring that Eurasia Group delivers best-in-class research on China’s politics, political economy, and foreign policy – including key relationships such as US-China and China-Europe. The mandate demands a candidate with a broad-spectrum ability to drive analysis across a range of issue areas, from elite politics, to macroeconomic policy, to geopolitics, to corporate regulatory risk. We will consider candidates with relative strengths in each of these arenas.
The China Practice Head candidate will be a senior research member on Eurasia Group’s analytic platform and, as such, a leader at our growing firm.
A successful candidate for this position will have:
· A record of facilitating and leading unique research on China’s political economy, with a fully established personal brand in the field, and serious academic qualifications (MA or PhD in political science or related field) to validate their competency.
· Evidence of innovative development of research or analytic products, including the ability to: think creatively, add new insights to current policy debates and discussions, and utilize data and quantitative metrics to support or supplement views.
· An understanding of the business and financial market context for China-focused policy research.
· Deep experience engaging in current debates in academic, government, and private sector circles about China and US-China policy.
· Meaningful corporate leadership and mentorship skills and experience, both on setting and meeting business objectives, and on managing and cultivating junior staff.
· An ability to operate with a commercial mindset, including skills in client service and relationship building, presentation delivery, and business development.
· The candidate must be willing to and capable of engaging with public audiences, both by representing Eurasia Group’s views in mainstream media, and by collaborating between our analytic and advisory work and our growing GZERO Media and events businesses. The successful candidate will have experience and interest engaging across all these platforms, and the ability to drive new thinking and content delivery across each of them.
· The candidate must be a good fit for Eurasia Group’s culture and values. A successful candidate will bring passion about our mission to deliver insights about the world to our clients and public audiences, while not themselves too seriously. We seek candidates who, like us, set the bar for our work at excellence and pursue that level relentlessly across everything we do.
The applicable base salary range for this role is $175,000 to $231,000.
The base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, and education. Decisions will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
