Responsibilities

 

As the Circular Economy Program Environmental Specialist, you will help champion environmental design,  due diligence, and operations as it relates to Eastman’s 2nd US molecular recycling plant.  You will work with the project team, Environmental Affairs, Legal, and local HSE teams to steward application needs and implement processes and procedures based on the investment project design.  You will help ensure that the plant is designed, built, and eventually operated-in accordance with Texas environmental regulations and permit requirements.  

 

You will support the design team and participate in engineering reviews, environmental assessments, PHAs, and 3D model reviews.  This assignment will migrate into pre-start-up reviews, commissioning checks, and start-up, and ultimately to put in place and manage the applicable environmental compliance programs during operations.


•    Take the complex and convert it into a manageable environmental project programs that allow for interfacing with the investment areas, multiple stakeholders, and the plant site.
•    Assist in developing, communicating, and tracking the required engineering deliverables where multi-step development is necessary to obtain the environmental permitting and compliance requirements.  
•    Facilitate and assist in providing information necessary for timely completion of estimates of air, water, and wastes that ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
•    Facilitate and assist in providing all other information necessary for timely completion of air, water and waste permits.
•    Ensure the project will not only comply with environmental regulations but also meet best practices and industry standards that support Eastman’s Circular Economy and Sustainability priorities.
•    Assist in summarizing, communicating, and tracking design aspects critical to complying with air, water and waste permit/regulatory requirements for performance, monitoring and/or recordkeeping requirements (e.g. legal compliance)
•    Assist as required with Texas Env Operations-led representation of EASTMAN site interests at government agencies and associations.  Represent the design team’s environmental aspects with consultants, service companies, and within Eastman.
•    Participate in risk and environmental assessments as needed (PHAs and environmental impacts analyses led by TXO Environmental Operations and/or consultant) and facilitate the capture of information needs capture and driving timely resolution of action items.
•    Acquire and document environmental applicability and non-applicability for all medias.
•    Collaborate with other environmental resources throughout the company to benchmark and identify best practices.
•    Prepare SOP’s for environmental compliance programs for the investment site to operate post mechanical completion.  
•    Set up program for training on above bullet
•    Serve as a resource for practices, programs, and analysis/resolution of issues in environmental compliance, data collection, and reporting which may include complex analysis or solutions.
•    Identify and coordinate applicable environmental training
 

Qualifications

 

•    Bachelor of Science degree in chemical or environmental engineering or equivalent technical degree
•    5 years exempt level experience in manufacturing or environmental assignment 
•    Demonstrated knowledge in environmental regulations, preferably in a chemical manufacturing setting. Experience with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) is preferred
•    Knowledge of TCEQ requirements preferred
•    Strong computer aptitude (database use, spreadsheets, word processing, presentation preparation)
•    Ability to simplify complex material or situations
•    Flexible to adapt to changing priorities quickly and effectively
•    Strong organization skills and ability to find practical solutions to environmental issues
•    Effective communicator who works collaboratively in a multi-faceted team environment
