Job Description NYC Parks serves as the steward for over 30,000 acres of land, which includes 1,000 playgrounds, 36 recreation centers, 66 pools and 14 miles of beach. Our primary responsibility is to build and maintain clean, safe and accessible parks, and to create cultural and educational programs for New Yorkers of all ages to enjoy. The mission of Recreation is to enable all New Yorkers to lead physically active and intellectually stimulating lives through sports, fitness, outdoor adventure, technology, education, and the arts. Recreation programs include specialized exercise classes, youth sports, senior activities, summer camps and free afterschool programs. Recreation programming occurs throughout the City in NYC Parks recreation centers, parks and playgrounds. Come join us at the new Shirley Chisholm Recreation Center! Located in East Flatbush, this center will be an almost 70,000-square-foot facility with an indoor competition pool, gymnasium, teaching kitchen, cardio and strength rooms, dance studio, media lab and programming spaces. This Recreation Center will provide the community with a wide variety of sports, fitness, arts and educational programs for all ages and abilities. Major Responsibilities - Reporting to a Center Manager, assist in general maintenance work at a recreation center, including lawn mowing, edging, seeding, snow removal, cultivating, fertilizing, sod laying and hedge trimming, sweeping and raking of litter and emptying of receptacles. - Clean and maintain facilities including restrooms. - Perform minor repair work including, but not limited to, plumbing, masonry, electrical, painting, carpentry, metal work and vehicle and equipment repair. - Drive vehicles and operate other motorized equipment. - Perform safety checks on facilities and equipment. - May move furniture, climb and perform other physical activities as required in the performance of assigned.
