Civil Engineer
Civil Engineer Responsibilities + Review rough sketches, drawings, specifications, and other engineering data received from engineers. + Plot maps and charts showing profiles and cross-sections, indicating the relationship of topographical contours and elevations to underground pipelines, buildings, retaining walls, overhead power lines, residential developments, commercial developments, and other structures. + Coordinate engineering work activities within and outside the utility, the City, and MPO, including long-range planning studies and planning for construction projects. + Plan and supervise the design of City projects. + Direct preliminary and detailed planning for construction projects, establishing priorities, and providing guidance and direction on technical aspects of the work. + Become knowledgeable with and be the technical expert for the city street construction manual and the city storm water management ordinance. + Review development plans, sub-division plats, and lot splits for compliance with requirements for street construction, storm water management, easements, and ROWS. + Assist construction contractors with the actual layout of new systems at the job site. + Inspect the construction and witness/oversee the testing of city projects. + Coordinate with the City's GIS office to get maps and files updated with all new construction. + Oversee the preparation of plans and contract specifications for City projects, handle bidding and bid openings for these projects, oversee project progress and review/approve contractor/vendor pay requests. + Oversee and review consultants' work for accuracy and professionalism, negotiate contracts, and ensure 'As Builds' documents are submitted at the conclusion of projects. + Act as the Floodplain Manager and maintain the FEMA license as the Floodplain Manager. + Provide technical support for other city departments and the MPO. + Interface with the public in a respectful, constructive and professional manner in providing information, reviewing plans, and investigating complaints. + Always comply with recommended safety procedures and guidelines, including wearing of proper safety equipment. + Perform any other related duties as required or assigned. Skills & Qualifications + Civil Engineering degree with 3-6 years of experience. + Engineering degree required; no prior experience necessary. + Preferred engineer with appropriate technical experience and FE or PE certification. Work Environment + Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. + The work environment includes working with engineering technologies and equipment. + The role requires adherence to safety procedures and guidelines, including wearing proper safety equipment Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $28.85 - $43.37 Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
