Overview This position is the entry level for a civil engineer but will be filled according to experience and qualifications. Individual normally works under close supervision on a variety of projects that have specific instructions and expected results. This position within the LG&E and KU Fleet Civil Engineering department. Position responsibilities include civil engineering technical support for customer’s (power plants) existing and planned physical assets. Civil engineer will complete field inspections, perform engineering studies, and execute civil engineering programs to optimize plant infrastructure safety and reliability. Work is conducted in the office and power plant environments. The position will be filled based on the successful candidates experience level: Engineer I, II, III or Principal. Responsibilities Continue to promote and build the company’s culture of safety throughout all activities, projects, assignments, and work processes. Provides technical civil engineering support services to internal customers at power generating stations. Drives assessment, repair design, and implementation support for earthwork, steel, and reinforced concrete structures. Supports Coal Combustion Residuals (CCRs) impoundment and landfill facility inspections, engineering analysis, operations, and maintenance support. Supports geotechnical field exploration, field performance monitoring instrumentation. Identifies opportunities for improvement and/or suggests improved methods. Gathers, correlates, and analyses specific data using established procedures. Performs detailed and/or routine engineering assignments involving established calculations, tests, and analysis. Performs a variety of routine tasks to become familiar with the engineering methods, practices, and programs of the company. Supports operating and maintenance functions with problem identification, engineering analysis, and problem resolution activities. Prepares and presents reports giving conclusions of job related engineering activities. Prepares engineering drawings, specifications, technical reports, calculations. Works both independently and on teams. Assists other engineers with large projects, as needed. Assists with the development of goals, objectives, budgets, programs, and procedures. Plans and controls all activities so as to provide an accident-free work place. Conducts work activities with regard to environmental rules and regulations. Regularly reviews assignments to assure optimum efficiency and cost effectiveness. Occasionally directs the activities of coops, supervisors, and others as they perform various activities. Helps plant staff and management with outage and capital projects. Performs other duties as assigned Complies with all policies and standards Qualifications Required Education ABET Accredited Bachelor’s degree in Civil engineering is required. Preferred Qualifications Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (F.E.) exam and obtained Engineer-in-Training certificate. Excellent writing and verbal communication skills. Positive attitude and professional demeanor. Self-starter, detail, and goal-oriented personality. Excellent customer service skills. Ability to analyze and solve engineering problems from a business perspective. Experience in the design, construction, inspection, rehabilitation, operation, and maintenance of heavy industrial facilities Familiarity with Coal Combustion Residuals (CCRs) impoundment and landfill facility inspections, engineering analysis, operations, and maintenance support. Geotechnical field exploration, field performance monitoring instrumentation. Experience with site survey control networks, field data collection, layout and analysis.
