Are you a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) looking to make a meaningful impact in your local community?Join Sarasota County’s Public Works team as a Civil Engineer, where you’ll play a key role in the design and delivery of stormwater improvement projects. In this position, you’ll be responsible for civil engineering design, project management, permitting, cost estimating, and construction oversight.
You’ll also engage with the public, assess drainage concerns in accordance with the County’s adopted level of service, and develop engineered solutions to address those issues. These solutions may involve hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, water quality analysis, drainage system design, ArcGIS Pro analysis, AutoCAD drafting, flood studies, and floodplain mapping.
This role requires close coordination with internal departments and collaboration with local, state, and federal agencies.

About the PositionEngineering duties include include:
Engineering design.Permitting.Cost estimating.Budget and schedule control.Hydrologic and hydraulic modeling.Water quality modeling.GIS analysis.AutoCAD drafting plans.Technical reports as required in support of the project. Coordinate with Field Services staff for operations.Project Management duties include:
Preparation of construction plans and scope of services.Assist with the administration of contracts. Development of scopes, schedules and costs of design; includes review of project deliverables. Coordination with Capital Projects managers.Additional duties include include:
Assessment of stormwater issues includes: public interaction and education regarding County level of service and water quality requirements. Assist with in-house stormwater projects to address multiple issues including flood protection.Water quality protection.Stormwater repair and replacement coordination.Low impact design implementation.Operations of stormwater treatment facilities.Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
About YouMinimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in Civil Engineering or a technically related engineering field AND four (4) years of related Engineering project experience.- OR - Master’s degree in a related field AND three (3) years of related Engineering project experience.A registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) certification from the State of Florida is required within six (6) months from the time of hire.Valid Florida driver's license at the time of hire.Preferred Qualifications
Expereince with using AutoCAD, StormWise (ICPR), and/or ArcGIS Pro.Physical Demands:
May occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds.Subject to Passing Substance Screening: This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment for a period of five (5) years.
About Everything ElseStarting Pay Range: $78,000.00 - $100,859.20/ annual, based on your experience.
