Your OpportunityThe role of an intermediate water resources engineer is to work independently on smaller projects and as a team member of larger projects under the guidance of a senior engineer/designer. You should be able to plan, evaluate, design, select, specify, and engineer systems or products for a project. An intermediate engineer will perform a variety of tasks which, may include calculations, field work and be able to delegate work to other team members. You will analyze proposed projects to ensure technical reliability, resource efficiency and cost-effectiveness. You will be required to demonstrate excellent communication skills and problem solving abilities along with a commitment to thrive in a proactive organization where client service is paramount. This position requires the ability to handle multiple projects, interact with clients and government agencies, and effectively work with a team.
Your Key Responsibilities Participate and support in a wide variety of water related projects, including project management activities, planning and conceptual design, and detailed design and implementation. Manage and lead technical work. Perform all aspects of design (grading, drainage, water, hydrology, erosion control, etc.) with an emphasis on technical and project delivery excellence. Lead water resource planning studies for conveyance, flood analysis, water quality and ecological benefits. Develop hydraulic and hydrologic model-based solutions to resolve engineering challenges. Complete tasks and delegate specific project tasks to other team members as appropriate. Coordinate with other project team members across the Stantec community to ensure compatibility with the design intent. Support work across technical groups to provide general civil or environmental engineering based on business needs. Project types may include industrial, commercial, hospitality, energy, public, mining, and/or other sectors. Attend meetings to communicate results, resolve issues, and strategize solutions. Prepare technical reports, concept designs, construction specifications, construction drawings, bidding documents, and permit applications for approvals. Participate in the permitting process of projects, which may require meetings with clients, contractors, reviewing agency personnel and governing entities. Participate in client management, business development, and proposal preparation. Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned. Your Capabilities and Credentials Has well-developed understanding of general concepts of relevant areas of hydraulic and hydrologic analyses and conveyance engineering design, including open channel, gravity and pressure pipe systems, bank stabilization and stream restoration, geotechnical, and civil design. Experience with model-build, calibration and verification; needs and alternative assessments, evaluation and defensible solution development. Ability to effectively discuss project issues with clients and reviewing agencies. Possess excellent time management skills, thorough understanding of task assignment and schedule, budgeting and efficient use of time and resources with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Ability to meet deadlines under pressure. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail. Ability to solve complex problems using sound professional judgment, creativity, and innovation. Proficient in hydrology modeling and 1D & 2D hydraulic modeling software, such as HydroCAD, SWMM, RAS; knowledge of design software (GIS, CAD) – working experience a plus. Understanding of all phases of engineering document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications. Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Engineering Licensed Professional Engineer or can be obtained within 6 to 12 months of employment. Ability to be licensed in multiple jurisdictions. Minimum of 4 years of experience.Typical office environment working with computers. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
