Job Description

The Civil Project Planner will provide and coordinate Planning Services for Projects being undertaken by the Capital Projects Group, under the overall direction of the Civil Superintendent; Co-ordinate the input of Civil, project control, procurement, contracts, estimating and construction functions for the various Projects being undertaken on site.

Operational Responsibilities

Coordinate the input of Civil functions during the development, approval and execution phases of Capital Works. .Prepare (within discipline) documentation for Capital Works Contracts including; Scopes of Work (SOW); pricing schedules; Material Take Offs (MTO’s), tender reviews, tender clarifications and tender recommendations.Manage all Requests for Information (RFI) within area of control and maintain the RFI register for all Civil works progress, ensure RFI’s are responded to within the designated time.Coordinate interfaces between the Project, Operations and other business activities in regard to the completion of Project Civil activities.Maintain daily records of works management, including incidents, progress, delays and the achievement of milestones. Ensure the Project Manager is promptly informed of all relevant matters and developments associated with construction activities and site works management.Provide technical support to the project management team.Develop metrics for the measurement of Civil Construction Works in progress, collect data for tracking progress against plan and provide inputs for weekly and monthly reports. Participate in the development of Project schedules for all capital works being undertaken.Provide data for the tracking and reporting against schedule for all Project Civil Engineering activities as per the requirements of the PM.Proactively highlight any events that may adversely affect project schedule to the Project Manager in a timely fashion.Participate in the development of Estimates for Civil Capital Works.Have a detailed understanding of the budget allocation for the Civil Engineering Works being undertaken.Provide data for the development and subsequent management of cost tracking of Civil Works as per direction of the PM.Ensure AFEs and Professional Service Agreements and/or Contracts and/or Purchase Orders are in place and up to date with the correct approvals in place prior to work being undertaken.Actively look for opportunities to implement cost savings without effecting safety, schedule or quality.

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

2+ years Project Engineering experienceEngineering Degree (preferred)

People Skills:

Strong attention to detail.Ability to think analytically.A motivated self-starter who can operate autonomously when required.Ability to work with multi-cultural teams.Strong results orientation and ability to consistently deliver against the plan.Excellent planning, organising and prioritisation capabilities.

Technical Skills:

Advanced MS Office and MS Project skills and P6 PrimaveraAdvanced professional report writing and cost reporting ability.Development of construction execution and sequencing plansUnderstanding of soil characteristics, placement methods and troubleshootingQuantity take offs and trackingCost tracking and forecastingUnderstanding of geosynthetic installation and applications in miningUnderstanding of various piping applications and material typesExperience in reading and understanding engineering drawings, specifications, manuals, SOP's and other technical documentation, drawings and figures typically associated with civil and mining projects.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs, talk, hear and see.Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy objects (up to 60 pounds) during the course of the workday.Work is in a mine setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity.Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in the mine environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required.OceanaGold Corporation promotes a drug/alcohol free work environment through the use of mandatory pre-employment drug testing and on-going random drug testing.
